I've got a Sansui FR1080 which I've had for about 30 years.

http://classic-hifi.net/product/sansui-fr-1080-8/

It doesn't get a lot of use these days but it's nice to play some vinyl from time to time.

It has manual cueing and auto shut off which is certainly worth having as you don't have to be right there to lift the tone arm off when the record is finished. It's also two speed so can play 45's and 33's.

Just seen a project essential 2 in Harvey Norman for$444. Good price I think but haven't researched it yet.

I've just done quite a bit of Google and every time it came back that there carbon was worth the extra. That is now a real contender.

That leaves the other issue of a phono preamp. I read good reviews about behringer pp400 $70.

Does Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks

So I've managed to borrow as denon dp23f while I wait for something else to come up (and to see if I'm hooked on this vinyl lark).

The cartridge is a DL 80 ml, but it got a pretty hard life by their grand kids so I need to get a new one before I can try it.

After a bit of research I'm still quite confused on what I should get for it. A few in a similar position said that The denon dl110 was a good choice (120 usd), but now retails for 4-500nzd!

I was looking for something no more than $200 that will hopefully give a good sound.

Can anyone help / recommend any?

Thanks

A wee bit out of the price range, but to provide a bit of feedback to previous comments.

I've a Pro-Ject 1-Xpression 3 Comfort feeding through a Pro-Ject Phono Box USB preamp from the Listening Post. The turntable has the auto-lift at the end of the record and I've absolutely no issues with the setup. Having spent decades in the past listening to vinyl, I can't get too hung up on any minor sound differences that the auto-lift may or may not make. It's just nice not to have to rush up and lift the needle when you are doing something else. And what the heck, the sound is hugely better than anything I had in the 70's :-)

If you're starting from scratch it would be cheaper to get a turntable with cartridge and built-in phono pre-amp :

It's only a bit out of my price range if you're asking too much for it! 😋

I did look at those, and the espirit SB, but will try the denon for now and wait for something cheap or on sale to come up.

More than my budget, but I'm a sucker for stuff that might be cheap.

Nice but ...

Budget creep + specification creep. wink

And you'll still need a pre-amp.

Quick update, I've just found out that the electronic tonearm no longer works 😫

Back to the drawing board I guess.

I probably shouldn't have bought the ortofon 2m red and preamp! (might keep preamp)

Musical fidelity v90 LPs, bit of an impulse buy.
