Hey guys,

Still piling my little Frankenstein project together.

The FX6300 in it seems to run ok but a FX83XX would be the bees knees, Does anyone have this CPU lying around for sale with a mobo? The FX has been deemed a steaming heap, Wanting to get an intel in there for better performance.

Also looking for DDR3 1333 single dim ram. Or a Mobo that can take 4 dimms + ram.

RX550 4GB going in today (YAYYYY) Wouldnt pay a cent more than the $170 that i did. OK card i suppose..

Very keen for an AM3+ wraith cooler or a CPU cooler, Any will work. Cooler on way, Thanks @Athlonite

Can swap my existing FX 6300 with cash if someone is looking to downgrade or claw some cash back on an upgrade and keep their existing setup going for media etc..

Cheers

What are you planning on running on your Frankenstein box that requires an FX8370 that wont be just as good on the FX6300

Also the wraith cooler will not fit on socket AM3+ only AM4 as it's a different size and the measurement between the retention holes is different aswell

Just need the single core performance, I suppose i could OC with my FX6300?
Really i just need a cooler for it then but if someone had a 83xx with mobo that wasnt povo spec and more ram id do it! My dilemmas currently is that i only got 2 RAM Dimms, Terrible CPU cooler. (Ill see if i can beg PB Tech northshore for a AMD cooler that they would have used an aftermarket one for)

If someone has an AM3 cooler that is good and will handle an OC id take it.

There's no real difference in IPC between the FX6300 and FX83XX models other than core clock if clocked the same they perform the same pretty much so I wouldn't worry to much about it

I do have an older Coolermaster Hyper 212 Click to see full size

Personally I'd ditch that fx series asap and buy a used i5 combo from trademe. Even the old i5-760s will smash the 6300. You can get a full i5 box for around $150

Was thinking of doing something like that but id be better to go and start from scratch tbh and build something decent, To change to Intel id need a CU, Mobo and possibly RAM. Something like this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/computers/components/other/auction-1370932980.htm

I see the odd CPU there but still moonbeans for what they are, id be smarter to do a LGA 771 to 775 conversion on ebay.

Tim, could buy one of the machines i was holding for possible mining later,  mix and match all the best pieces between it and yours, then sell the 6core based one as a fully working machine  ;)

depending what you sell it for might cost you very little in the end for the upgrade

is a FX8120 8 core with new cpu fan, 16GB DDR3

I've got an i7 3770that you could have for a negotiable price.

Also 4GB (2x2GB) 1600 DDR3.

Working pulls from a machine with a dead mobo.

Oh mint! Im not sure what they are worth. I cant remember what the S meant, If it meant better graphics on chip, low power, Definitely not unlocked.
What Mobo can i pair with it? Im keen to try and get it all second hand :)

The 'S' is 65 watt low power version.

It turbos up to the full 3.9ghz, but under heavy load the frequency eventually bottoms out lower (3.1ghz vs 3.5ghz) to keep within the thermal envelope.

Its an LGA1155 cpu, so you'd need a motherboard with B75,Q75,Q77,H77,Z75,Z77 type chipsets. EDIT: I think late 6 series chipsets support it too. Like H61, H67.

Ideally something with all core turbo (gigabyte?) so you can force it to stay at 3.9 or 4.0ghz all the time.

Yeah i would have to force it to stay at the higher clock speeds. Im sure its fine for the chip?
Prefer that i dont have to go and buy a new mobo however. Wonder if anyone here has a suitable board?
Did you purchase the S chip for that above reason? Cheaper and can leave it clocked up?
Cheers
