If anyone is thinking of upgrading, or just in need of some cash, I am in the market for a top quality slightly used Android box. I am not interested in a cheap Chinese. I have been there and done that. I am thinking of things like Nvidia Shield or Fire TV or their equivalents. 4K is not a selling point for me so an older model would be OK, but not too much older. 

 

I am struggling to make the most of a poor Internet connection and I want to eliminate everything else as a possible bottleneck, so I am looking for the best possible hardware I can get, but it probably will never have to cope with anything more demanding than 720p at the most, maybe 1080p on a good day. I just want  something where I can say with absolute confidence that any problem I am experiencing can not be due to the hardware. I am not intending to use this with a particular service. I just want to install Kodi on it for some live streams and VOD.

I got a brand new Xiaomi Mi Box for $100 delivered via Ali Express; its running Android TV6 but is expected to get Android TV 7 at some point... may be of value?  Small, effecient... Not as quick as a Shield TV and lacks an ethernet connection but for general VOD stuff will be fine.

 

Mine has the official Ethernet adapter and can play Sky HD channels fine from my server, along with 1080p content from my Synology via Plex.  AC wireless connection seems fine but I need ethernet for live tv.

Thanks for the offer. I may come back to you but I want to see if anything else pops up first. From the specs, your box sounds a lot like what I already have, which I'm not really happy with.

To clarify mine wasn't a sale as I'm still using it but to indicate that an officially supported Android TV box could be had for $100 NZD delivered to NZ, I will admit that its lacking in power... Kodi really shows that although the fork by the previous kodi android maintainer, SPMC, is much faster.  Only slows down a little bit with the EPG for Sky, but media is fine.
