My 10yo daughter wants one so that she can draw things on her ipad.  I am not really an apple person so don't know anything about models etc but if you have one you want to get rid of PM me and I will do the research.

Suggest you post which model iPad your daughter has, as that will determine which model of Pencil will work with the device. As an example, I've got the standard current-model iPad (ie, not Pro or Air), and that works only with a gen one pencil.

Cheaper. Pencil is expensive for what it is. Unless you need to use the hundreds of points of pressure and tilt and unless you have an iPad that is compatible, the cheaper ones are fine. Especially for a child, Pencil is massive overkill.

You have been most helpful.  I would add to that that a child might loose it.  I also now know that I need the first gen pencil thats non magnetic and the most easy to loose.  I was surprised that the $120 logitech option was the cheap option but then I remembered it's apple...

I can get a returned one for $132nzd off amazon which isn't much above the logitech.  I will keep looking at the aftermarket ones.

Ideally someone has one sitting in a drawer that they don't use and want to move on.  I do have a couple of surface pens (latest gen, 4096 levels of pressure) that are unused that I could swap if that suited someone.

I bought my gen 1 pencil (to work with the same model iPad as your daughter has) off a fellow GZ member; paid about $120 I think. I bought a case for it - basically just a little vinyl pocket on a piece of elastic that slips over the 'cover' part of my iPad's case, and does the job perfectly (protects the pencil and stops it getting lost). Case was only a few bucks off eBay.

If your daughter's into art (or may get that way) then it's probably worth paying for the Pencil (my son loves drawing with the pressure-sensitive stylus that came with his Chromebook); otherwise I'd agree an alternative may be fine as a substitute.

Noel Lemmings New Market has a returned one for $110, and you can use the website code to get a further $10 off.

I picked one up last week for $99.

Be sure your iPad can use the gen 1.

Bump.  Still looking for a first gen pencil for a 10yo who likes to draw.  I have the latest model Surface Pen to swap if that works for someone:
