Howdy all,

I have a nice new and upgraded HP Mini 1004TU netbook, and they have this nifty wee expansion port for an item called an HP Mobile Mini Drive

http://www.shopping.hp.com/store/product/product_detail/FY825AA

Thats the basic 4gb example, anyway, its been reported to simply be a mini usb flash stick. Like the ones below;

http://www.sony.net/Products/Media/Microvault/products/usm-h/index.html
http://myhpmini.com/forum/transcend-t3-8gb-flash-drive-unboxing-install-t174.html
http://myhpmini.com/forum/transcend-t3-8gb-flash-drive-unboxing-install-t174.html

So my want is one of these products, i cannot find anything like the in NZ larger than 2gb, i also want one of the houseings if possible, as seen in the third link, third picture down.

If anyone can help me i would greatly appreciate it!

Note - Online resellers for these products in amercia do not ship to NZ

Cheers all, Chris

EDIT >> Just found the sony thing on pricespy, but im still looking for the real thing or the housing

I have the HP Mini Mi (the Linux version) and asked a friend to order one online in the US and post it to me. At the end it costs up to US$60 due to postage, US state tax, etc.

I couldn't find anytning like the original though...

bugger, that sony one works wonders size wize, but the housing is what i really want, the lil plastic bit. Did you know most HP Minis sold in the stataes either come with the 2gb drive or a spare housing?

Ah well, thanks for your reply, i'll hold out hope yet

The sony one is 14.5 mm wide (fits) and 32 mm long, i stuck the rear end of pen refil down there and measured ~33 mm in depth. Thats too the end of the usb conector, when the thing plugs in it should deeper.

The microvault is the current recommended (by fans) product to replace the HP one if you want aesthetics, if you want functionality you go for the 32gb or 16gb transcend jetflash T3 - which sticks out ~2-5mm depending on how gung ho you are in stripping it down.

Im only going off the sony website schematics and my rough measurements, but it looks like it should fit perfectly, like it says on the hp user fansite.

I have just bought myself an 8gb model, any excuse would do me for one of those, $99 postage inclusive from the sony nz online store. I needed to replace the SD card for storage, whenever the SD card is plugged in my HP freezes on the HP splash bios screen, even with SD card disabled in bios.

If ya fancy when it arrives i will put some pictures up.

A courier just delivered my box here and I posted some pictures of my HP Mini Drive. It's actually a Transcend 4GB USB drive with a case - sorry only one case, no spare ones. Here is one of the pictures (check my blog for the others):

Yes i know about the transcend, unfortunately, american address only!

Anyway enjoy the mini drive, from the looks of it i can put my sony 8gb stick in and just put the cover flap back on case solved.... hopefully!

Anyway, if anyone comes across a spare or source of spare cases, then i'd like to know.

http://www.sella.co.nz/general/computers/peripherals/external-storage/usb-memory-keys/4mkc3b/

looks like there is/was a seller of the Transcend T3 drives in NZ these will fit into the drive slot in the HP Mini series laptops, and looking at the cover that came with my  HP Mini, seems that the transcend drive will slot right in there

As you can see below, the sony microvault fits perfectly, it has some compression thing built in (optional) that lets the 8gb stick hold around 12gb, the cover doesnt go over it because its the wrong shape (cover) if i had the actual mount i suspect it would work perfectly, anyway, behold!
