Hi all,

It has come time where we can no longer really afford no to be able to drive with kids going different directions next year with school and the continued unpredictability of the weather.
I am looking for a economical runabout for a new driver, manual or automatic, must have WOF and REG or at least no major outstanding issues to obtain them.
As we are a young family on one income we dont have a lot of money to spend and thus the car needs to be fairly cheap or passed on to rid one of a surplus unused car.

Sorry I can't help with a car but a bit of advice for you. See if you can find a late 80's, early 90's Toyota Corolla. Go forever, cheap to run and parts are plentiful.

My Dad had an 89 4 door 1.5 and three kids learnt to drive in it and thrashed the living s**t out of it. When he sold it it had 400,000km on the clock and was still going strong.

I would definately think about getting a manual as well as once you learn to drive in one the skill is always there. Anyone can jump in an auto and drive but as I have found out recently trying to teach someone (wife) who has only been driving an auto for the last 10 years to drive a manual is very hard.

This is sound advice, problem is the people that are selling corollas at the moment seem to know that they are sought after and in most cases are asking a bit high. I should know I was in the hunt for the same type of vehicle as you all of last month, finished up getting a Telstar wagon, high kms but mechanically sound. Stay well away from all the Subaru legacys that are flooding the market, they'll only bring you heartache.

We have a dead 1991 Honda Accord if you want to come and take it away.
It needs a new alternator and the brakes could do with a service but other than that it did drive well.
We are in Whangarei though.
The rego ran out last month I think but the warrant is still current until next month.

hey many thanks mate, but despite the name we have moved and now live on the Kapiti Coast and collecting the car would be too difficult for me.  you should list it on trade-me i am sure with a simple repair like that there would be a keen buyer out there and that way you could make some money for it as opposed to givinng it away.  but again, many thanks, your generosity is appreciated.
