Is there any map software for Windows Mobile with New Zealand maps? TomTom has promised but nothing yet. CoPilot doesn't have New Zealand maps and may never have because of their map sources. Garmin doesn't seem to be selling their software anymore.

The only optin is Google Maps for Mobile - works ok, but it's just a gimmick when compared with TomTom or CoPilot.

Navman was good but they never updated the software to work with Windows Mobile 5 and newer.

Any other ideas?

I use two GPS softwares (in Australia).

Tomtom is not an option for NZ at the moment on Windows Mobile, but the other software is Oziexplorer CE, which upon scanning NZ maps could be mapped to your current position - obviously not useful for turn by turn stuff but it will demonstrate the GPS working on NZ maps, useful for stuff like tramping and 4WD.

Was looking high and low for the exact same thing but came up empty which is why i ended up with a tomtom device. Even after getting it, i still tried by copying the NZ maps from the tomtom to the Navigator 6 but that didnt work either.

I hate to say it but there isnt any options for the WM devices it seems.

Actually it just occured to me that GPS Tuner might suit your needs. The latest version is able to download the free maps from the likes of Google. It also does have voice directions. It was built mainly for off road type navigation but it should serve your needs. Just watch out for the data traffic since it needs to download new regions of the map that you havent yet ventured to before.

Goldfinger provided me with an SD card and software for a BT GPS attached.
Never really got it to work but certainly worth a look!!

Goldfinger supplied us with software for review but the release was so bad that we decided not to write about - it wouldn't work simply.

Of course we submitted our comments and things may have changed since - it was a good three years ago.

Garmin Mobile XT and Garmin NZ Map V3, gives you 3d street-level voice navigation.

I didn't list Garmin before because I couldn't find the software for purchase here in New Zealand or online.

No trial version for this software? I am certainly not paying US$320 for a software that I can't try first.

I dont think there is any trial software but not certain. Apart from the 3d map appearance, it is very similair to their nRoute product which runs on a laptop. You can download that for free.

Hi
You can get the maps running on WM, I have it running on a Telecom Treo WM5 and it was all free (and actually legal from what I'm aware of)
Basically from the NZ Open GPS Project

http://gwprojects.orcon.net.nz/gps/

I downloaded the maps and then followed the instructions here

http://www.malsingmaps.com/wiki/index.php/PocketPC_Setup_Guide_to_use_Malsing_maps

to get it running on my PDA. I have used Tomtom on my PDA in Canada, USA and the UK and its fantastic. The Garmin Que software is no match for tomtom but basically gets the job done and I couldn't find any alternative for NZ besides buying a dedicated unit. I am using it with a Wintec BT-100 over bluetooth and everything runs great.

I use Goldfinger guider... may even sell it since it looks like I'm gonna zoom to Aussie to continue contracting over there (NZ market too small).

I find it OK - freezes every now & then (probably the Dell PDA & not the software), but otherwise fine/ fairly accurate.  Used with bluetooth GPS receiver... PM me if interested - only 9 months old.

Hi all

I have used the following on my Axim X51v

  • Garmin Que CF with Free NZ maps
  • GoldFinger
  • Garmin Mobile XT with Garmin City Navigator (current)
Now the Garmin Que was good, however did not have 2D or 3D, now GoldFinger was really bad out by heaps up to 200 metres out returned it the same day I got it.

Now I currently have Mobile XT installed, received it as a christmas prescent, (I know, but I was really good this year....) as my brother-law has an old employer in Hawwaii and was able to get it for me on DVD and it is awasome looks great, easy to use and pretty accurate. I do have picks if you want to see how it looks.

Cheers

Jace
