how correct is the directions time google maps gives you?
i want to visit somebody from my house in weymouth to there address in Napier google says it will take almost 24hours to get there by bike
is this true
It's car routing atleast, is generally bloody accurate. but really depends on the type of road etc, number of people traveling so they have good data points etc.
I'm a frequent traveler from Auckland to Hamilton, and it's always within a min for the hour and a half drive...
In saying that, most mornings this week it's told me my trip to work is an hour 20... and i've done it in less than that each time (I'm not an aggressive driver, it doesn't deal so well with the lanes for spaghetti junction)
was a recent article of someone messing with it by walking a trolly of phones around, kinda a laugh..
Any comments made are personal opinion and do not reflect directly on the position my current or past employers may have.
Bung: If you did mean by bicycle it's over to you. 390km @ about 16km/hr would do it. If you mean motorcycle that's different.
When I cycle tour, I can do 150k in about 10 hours with breaks. I wouldn't do more than 10 hours in a day. If you do full day cycling alot then 24hrs sounds about right.
Given you are even asking the question, I'll assume you haven't done any multi day bike touring before.
In which case as a first up I would divide this in to 4 days as a minimum. Unless you also have a vehicle support crew to carry you gear, you will be carrying everything with you,
so you will be biking with an extra 15kg or so on your bike. It makes a difference.
I would suggest you start by doing a few overnight trips.
Pick a camping ground that is say 50km away, bike there, stay the night, bike home again. Then maybe try 80km destination.
See how you feel. Unless you are in a hurry doing 80 - 100km a day is not too bad.
