Ahh what? Snapper should get into ... the Rail Network.

Yes, that would make it *much* more useful in Auckland!

Well Auckland is coming... I assume!

I would guess there has been no anouncement around auckland due to the ongoing 'debates' with HOP but given the current HOP cards are snapper this would theoretically work in Auckland.

Sarcasm alert: SaltyNZ comments upon the wasteland that is public transport options in Auckland, not whether or not Snapper/HOP/Thales/Other French Missile Manufacturer cards will work with the cool new 2degrees service. :-)

Pwner: i agree it should/could work up here.
from my understanding hop is the brand Auckland transport own , and snapper is the provider, AT may change providers so the system might change but hop will still be the name.

Salty: I've seen readers at train stations many months ago. maybe the developers catch the train to work!

Now who's going to the Olympics? Surely you'd like to complain that touch 2 pay isn't supporting your oyster card? :p

Auckland has train stations? ... We should get some trains for them.

oh yeah i should have been clearer, hence why i said current HOP cards are snapper

Yeah i have seen these too, but the silly thing is there are no gates or anything so are they going to print a ticket or just work off the honesty system?

I would have hoped that the designers of all the new auckland stations would have factored in a point to have a gate system with card reader like they do in any city with decent public transport so you can just swipe on and off the train system as well.

hope it is the case, but i may be living in some dream world :)

Or maybe we switched them off in Wellington :-)

Funny how they are talking about a subway in Wellington when you look at it Auckland needs this not Wellington! Anyway this is not about our substandard Rail Network... Even though we don't have the population to require an improvement.

If you have a NFC-enabled Android device you can download the Snapper app now (on any network). You won't be able to use it as a Snapper card unless you have the appropriate SIM from 2degrees, but you can read Snapper cards and topup Snapper cards - very handy since it makes it a lot easier to reload those!

:wonders how baked into the app/system the 2degrees sim requirement is:

A good step forward though and a sweet promotion. Hope we see this in other cities too!

The SIM card is the authentication/authorization component. It runs a Java aplet that provides the Android app with the necessary security featues.

The aplet is baked into the SIM at the source.

You can use the Snapper app on any NGF phone, but without the proper API calls and the SIM card it will have limited use.

Other devices will be certified in time.

Folks, I have created a thread with 2degrees TouchPay with Snapper including their FAQ - any questions should go there now.
