No ADSL internet at home last night. Checked the Network Updates and Fault History on Slingshot site before heading home, the site has no records of a problem (even this morning).

Call Slingshot, after about an hour on the phone the SS tech finally checks something and says, oh yeah, there was a problem in Wellington this morning and its still being sorted! Why wasn't the SS website updated to tell me this! Could've saved time and aggro. Why bother having that part of the site? Why weren't the techs informed?

This is my second major outage recently where I've gone all night without it. Grrrrr.

Plimmerton exchange.

Was it a slingshot outage or was it a Telecom outage, there's about 40 - 80 of these outages a day sometimes more, Telecom do not tell the ISP who's affected they just say what DSLAM is affected.

They only way for a customer to figure out if they are affected by these outages is to call in, Its not feasible for any ISP to take a proactive approach to this sort of small outages, they can only take a reactive approach. I don't know but its possible you were the only one affected by this Change/outage.

I went though a number of ISP's sites and no one Notify about Telecom outages.

EDIT I forgot to add: Slingshot Network Status is for Slingshot/Callplus network issues, not Issues to individual DSLAM Outages/Changes that aren't owned by slingshot. Unless your on the Better Network then I would agree its part of the slingshot network then there should be a notification on the status page.

That's worth knowing, thanks.

Buggered if I know who's outage it was! But I was told more than 300 were affected by it on my exchange, don't know about others. There may be more on other exchanges for all I know.

Are you saying an outage that lasts for more than 12 hours and affects that many can't be noticed by Slingshot and notified on their website?

If its a Telecom outage the wholesale contract says they are not allowed to put notices like this on their website. Go to every other ISP network status message no one says when there is a Telecom outage.

Telecom always end up on the end of the barrel only becuase they are the biggest and people like to pick holes and put down the big guy.

I assume that in every reference to the word Telecom in this post you actually mean Chorus?
