I live in Upper Riccarton and have gone with Slingshot as my internet service provider for the last three years (three years since we moved into this address). Not a single day we could have good reception from Slingshot. We cannot even dream of downloading youtube videos, we can barely chat or send email from our so called "broadband" connection using wifi. I am thoroughly disgusted with the quality of the reception of this service.
A call for plea before I completely give up and move elsewhere. Is it a problem of reception throughout Christchurch? Is this poor quality of upload/download specific to slingshot or will moving to other providers make any difference?

I assume this is an ADSL connection?

What troubleshooting have you done so far?

I would suggest starting with a full isolation test, and posting your modem stats here. There are probably hundreds of threads on this forum covering this if you use the search function.

By the sounds of it you may have poor internal wiring, a faulty modem or a line fault as what you have described is not the usual experience for Slingshot users. If its any of the above 3 then changing ISPs won't help you at all.

Could you login to your modem and provide us line stats. Go to speedtest.net and provide speedtest results to various servers in NZ, AUS and USA? Also its worth trying to unplug everything from your phone line apart from your modem including Sky and an alarm if you have one.

So what did slingshot say when you rang them? Like you have rung them about your ongoing issues (three years worth you say!)?

What basic fault checking have you done?

80% chance the issue is not even with Slingshot and related to your house wiring

As pointed out above the first step is to assess your internal wiring. This is the single biggest contributor to poor speeds.

If your wiring is causing your speed issues changing ISP's won't change anything.

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear you are so unhappy with the service, if you like you can PM me here or email me on benb@team.slingshot.co.nz and I will look into this further.

If you'd prefer to post here, some of the questions raised by other geekzone members are applicable...

Have you done any troubleshooting? If not, I would suggest calling our helpdesk so we can run you through from the beginning.

Thanks,
Ben
