is slingshots cache open to the entire internet or does it only work for slingshot customers, like if i changed to orcon, would torrents still come down from their cache or would this come from the orcon equivalent  if they even have one?

Slingshots cache only works for slingshots customers- no it wont work if u switch to orcon and no orcon doesnt have a torrent cache

i thought orcon had their own bittorrent cache?

update: apparently orcon are caching p2p using something called peerapp.

ooo okay, thanks :) I don't download many torrents, so it doesn't really matter either way, but i was just curious.

Obviously, given the sensitivity of the data held within such caches there is nothing official on the matter from Callplus/Slingshot. Technically the data is hashed and torrents only run to 99% so is not complete, so it lives in a grey area of the law.

From what I've seen and heard from testing, Slingshot's p2p cache will download from any user but only uploads to Slingshot users. At least, that's how it worked when it was first introduced, so I'm assuming no major changes have been made.
