richms: Call them and log faults so you have some records of trying to resolve it when you cancel the contract for non performance.

Its complacent whiners who wont actually move isp and keep paying that let them get away with crap like this.
these issues here probably can't be called non-performance when they don't guarantee a certain performance. and those on ufb will be stuck on 12/24 month contracts where they'd need to pay quite a large sum to close the account

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

Yes they can. There is a little thing called the CGA that says things have to be fit for purpose.

Taken from their own front web page

"Faster Broadband

Our Next Generation Network delivers ADSL2+ broadband – offering better speeds than ADSL networks."

ummmm not at this point in time your not in all actuality you network is performing worse than ADSL almost to the point where the original Telecom NZ/Xtra Jetstart 256/128 plan looks better

1. contemplating selling the company
2. offer amazing plans(unlimited data) knowing full well their network can't handle it
3. grin at mass sign ups, increase of turn over.
4. list company for sale.
5. silent middle finger to existing customers

Absolute garbage speeds at the moment. I'm glad I'm in the signup process with snap. Orcon's peformance and service over the last 9 months is pathetic. Their response on their network status page is never up to date. Check out these speed tests - I can't even play anything online.

Noticing pings are up regardless of location, up atleast 10-20MS locally, over 30 to aussie over what they normall are.  Orcon are just a big bag of fail with their internet.

If I had 198ms latency in game i would be happy. Plus the results to Auckland are normal for me. Its just the international traffic capacity thats causing me issues. If there is nothing displaying on screen its fine, but the moment i get a busy screen it hits the pot.

Orcon are a disgracfull ISP now. I've found that as soon as orcon released the all you can eat plan everything has turned to crap... it may just be a coincidence though.

This is why Marketing and Network Operations seldom see eye-to-eye. The Engineers know what their network is capable of and yet Marketing departments just want to advertise more and more data for less and less.

At some point everyone has to be realistic and understand that you simply cannot have mountains of data for bottom dollar without impacting quality of service during peak times. If anyone wants consistent speeds 24/7 then perhaps consider paying for it. It's like purchasing a Lotus and expecting it to drive like a Lambo.

To anyone stuck in a long contract who's service was good to start off with, then I do feel for you as I'd be pissed too.

They updated the Network Status page:

31/03/13 2:24 PM INTERNATIONAL SPEEDS HAVE BEEN AFFECTED TODAY BY A DDOS ATTACK ON SPAMHAUS SIMILAR TO THAT REPORTED IN THE NZ MEDIA RECENTLY. OUR ENGINEERS HAVE BEEN AND CONTINUE TO WORK TO MITIGATE THE EFFECTS OF THIS ATTACK WHICH IS UNRELATED TO ORCON OR ITS CUSTOMERS.

Even though it's extra slow today, the fact is, it's still garbage, has been for a couple months now.
