Trying to get back through to them now
I told him the Attenuation has jumped up and has halved my connection, and he was like "So what exactly is the problem?" ;\
RunningMan: Just a couple more basic things to check also:
1) Do you have another phone cable (wall outlet to modem) that you could try?
2) Check for visible corrosion on all the connectors you can see.
The only other thing I can do it plug the router directly in to the phone jack and leave it out in the hallway, and run a 10m ethernet cable to my room
Phewsion: I have overhead lines and I went out to the power pole to look at the box the lines go to and the lid is missing so it's exposed to the elements, assuming this would have adverse effects?

Very much so - pretty much exactly the problems you are seeing. Hard to tell exactly from your photo, but it looks like the lead in cable from the street is pretty old (30 years or more), so they may replace that at the same time if it is faulty.
chevrolux: These threads are annoying me. So you are running your modem on the end of a 10m extension cord - not smart. There has been not alot of wiring checked. If you are serious about getting this sorted then get a proffesional to check your wiring. You clearly dont understand what you are looking at -not a personal thing, there is just no point mucking around if you dont know what you are looking. Orcon support is known to be terrible so why bother with them.
You do need to ascertain whether or not your closest ISAM is in a cabinet or the exchange. If you are direct feed from an exchange then there is no point moving to a wholesale connection. If there is a chorus cabinet upstream then there is a benefit in moving to wholesale.
First step, get a pro to check the wiring.
