chevrolux: I agree that this magical 'y cable' should be included for your $390.

That is assuming of course that the device has a Telepermit/ChorusPermit for connectivity to the PSTN. I have no idea if this is the case or not since I don't have the PTC number and I'm not going to go through the Telepermit website looking for it. DSL, VoIP and FXO connectivity all require different testing, and as I speculated above maybe they didn't submit this for approval.

What will display the PTC details but won't detail whether FXO testing was done and/or whether it passed.

Many people forget VoIP hardware also needs a telepermit!

Hi All,

Sorry for the delay on this one, we had to dig around to make sure we had the correct answer!

In short, Snap does not support using the Fritz!Box with an incoming POTS phoneline, the main reason as sbiddle as stated above is that the device has not been through PTC testing to allow it do do so. When Snap bought in the 7340's 7390's and Fritz Fones we undertook the PTC process on the behalf of AVM, there are quite a lot of specifics to this and it was quite a long process, but in short we have tested, and support (from Snap Support Desk) the FSX ports, the xDSL (combo FXO) interface, but for use for DSL only (we have had it checked to ensure that it does not interfer with POTS, just like a DSL router without POTS functionality. as a side note the Fritz!Fon is also PTC compliant once we have dispatched it through Snap - PTC294/11/004

Snap also imports the Fritz! equipment and packages them up with all the necessary cables in NZ (locally sourced), this includes the BT - RJ11 adaptor, BT to BT adaptors for analog phones from the Fritz and NZ Power supply. We also apply the Chorus PTC labels to the devices before we send them to you.

For our helpdesk support, We support the Wireless, Snap Plus voice to Snap (and the QOS configurations applied to this) and internet settings, there are a few things we don't provide support for directly, items like POTS in the FXO (as discussed in this forum) non-standard command line configuration, USB storage etc. these are all supported by AVM directly and its good to hear you are receiving support from them.

Finally on the POTS -> FXO configuration, further to not being PTC we have not tested this internally either, so our support desk is not trained on this feature - its not to say that we wont introduce this in the future, however to test/support and to PTC this feature is a reasonable undertaking, we do have some external IT partners that may be interested in taking this further if there is sufficient interest.

We are also careful not to advertise the the features that we don't support on our helpdesk - but we could do better explaining this, we will get an update on the supported features on our website soon.

I'm late to the thread, but yes, I've done this with 7340. I made the Y-cable using a old BT to RJ11 cable and a RJ45 plug (or more pedantically an 8p8c modular plug). The ADSL side connects the centre two contacts of the RJ11 to the centre two contacts of the RJ45. The phone side connects the pin 2 of the BT plug to pin 6 of the RJ45 and pin 5 of the BT plug to pin 3 of the RJ45.

It works well, and it supports mixing POTS and VoIP which is very nice.

I was going to ask for the diagram on the cabling to do this, but I found it elsewhere. In my instance I replaced the Y cable with a standard 2 wired phone cable. The RJ11 end was using the pair 4&5, I then put an RJ45 on the other end using pin 3 and 6. This enabled the 7390 to recognise the analoge fixed line, without any issues.

I recently transition from Snap/2degrees to MyRepublic. MyRepublic advised they do not support VOIP through the router but provide VOF (voice-over-fibre) through the ONT. Because I really like the Fritz!Fon handsets I wired up the ONT to the Fritz using a tweak of the BT/DSL solutions from previous posts. Also, as the copper has been cut at our property, the Chorus techs wired up the rest of the jackpoints to a single RJ11 cable and this has been plugged into "FON1" on the router for our home alarm. I've summarised the correct PIN out wiring configurations/connectors in the diagram below and also screen capped the Fritz Box telephony router config. Hope this helps someone out there!
