I don't think they mentioned that prior to the company being sold, it was actually owned by a government SOE, which I think was relevant to mention. So can a fully private company run it better? I think so, and possibly shows why it never should have been owned by a SOE.

richms: Huge mess up with their staff not identifying the issue and just shelving the problem. Surely they would have access to call logs to see that the problem was ongoing.

I expect that staff at the time were just in limbo with job security and more worried about keeping their call stats up by getting off calls as soon as possible.

The problems at Orcon have been going on for Years. I would vote Scott Bartlett as the Worst CEO in NZ presently. It's constantly a surprise to me he isn't fired.

kingjj: A complete non-story blown out of proportion by Fair Go as usual. I especially liked their suggestions that Orcon had black listed their [the complainant's] number for other Orcon customers when they transferred back to Telecom.

I disagree.  Fair go clearly said they had been receiving a plethora of complaints about Orcon and this story was just a representation of one of those.

Orcon has 5% of the market but complaints received are far greater than that would suggest.

And, the complainant in the story was absolutely messed around. It seems only fair-go stepping in cleared it up.

I have to agree. I have complained here to Orcon, on their facebook page, etc. Exchanged PM's with Cam, etc... and I'm still waiting for a credit from when I finally decided to move from Orcon to Snap (Best decision ever and now have VDSL). They still owe me approx $170.. probably waiting around 9 months now... surely their accounts department can see customers that have been in credit for more than 30 days and then actually make arrangements pay them back!

Orcon were once a great company to deal with, now I wouldn't even recommend them to my worse enemy.
In my book they are just blatant thieves.

My experience with Orcon:

Someone in my family had their service and moved into a new house. And ADSL never worked with Orcon as the service provider. They didn't deliver on time, and when they "delivered" it wasn't working.

As the house geek I got to talk to them and was given the run around time and time again, and a fix for the problem was always 3 days away - for TWO WEEKS. They never got back when they promised and never gave a proper answer to what was the problem.

Switched to Snap and they had it fixed in just a few days.

So never Orcon for me.

You've PM'd me? My apologies, I don't recall, but if you email me at socialmedia@team.orcon.net.nz rest assured I'll jump on it ASAP.
