NZCrusader:
hamish225: woohoo, called up and ordered my install for the 10th! :P

wonder how long the modem will take to get to christchurch

Wonder if I will get it on the same day? (Also CHCH)

Will post speedtests when VDSL is hooked up.

I ordered this morning.  Txt and email back, confirming it's booked in for hookup next Friday (the thirteenth).
This is not an omen - as I am not superstitious.

Getting VDSL next week cant wait.

I could get UFB if went with another provider since slingshot only working with Chorus atm, It's a shame tho since most areas in Christchurch have been installed by Enable.

quick question, if when the corus man or woman turns up on the 10th to put the splitter in and make sure it all goes, my modem hasnt arrived, will the ADSL still work till i get the VDSL modem?

im sure slingshot have heaps and heaps of orders set for the 10th so im not going to hold my breath on the modem arriving then.

Another question for Slingshot:

Will Chorus install the VDSL jack point in any room in the house or only in the room closest to the road?

Yea, I will.

Will also take a look around the CLI and report back on any commands to tweak SNRM, show detailed line stats etc.

Its ADSL2+ compatible so will hook it up this avo and report back with a "Before" and "After" transition from ADSL2+ to VDSL2.

Currently syncing at 20.7 Mbps with Vigor120.
(Dam infineon chipset, cant tweak SNRM....... it only matches the SNRM as set on the DSLAM line cards port.  :(  )

Well I have the modem and a text/email from Slingshot advising the VDSL upgrade will take place tomorrow...

Of course I haven't actually heard anything from Chorus yet, which makes trying to arrange a convenient time to be in the house pretty difficult.

If I already have a master splitter installed, is there actually any additional cabling work to be done on the last mile or is it just a changover at the Slingshot end?

There may not be any extra work they need to do but they're still supposed to come in and check to make sure it's working properly before they leave.

Thanks for the response - let's hope I hear something from them soon - we can't all take half a day of work at the drop of a hat!

My install is booked for tomorrow (13th).
The modem hasn't arrived - cutting things a bit fine IMO.

I'm still fighting to get confirmation from Chorus...

They still haven't contacted me yet and the only reason I know they had planned the install for afternoon today is that I phoned Slingshot every day and chased...

Apparently they may or may not have the message that I can only be home from 2:00pm...we will see how it goes I guess.

Oh - to add:

My courier didn't leave the modem - they needed someone to take receipt, which is fair enough I suppose...

They tried on Monday and left a calling card, I was then able to call them back and authorize them to leave the thing around the back of the house, which they did the following day.

Depending on whether you have the same courier, you might have the same issue if you are not at home. Perhaps see if you can get a contact for them from Slingshot and pre-authorize if needed.
