This is going to be one of those frustrating days...
I'm at home - have some big jobs to do that I can't start or plan, because some other packages which should have been here days ago haven't arrived, trying to track them via freight company.
I hope Slingshot don't use Courierpost. Our street is blocked at one end, traffic in the area is bad. Several times recently courierpost has dropped a "while you were out" note in our letterbox, when I was not only definitely at home, but if he'd lifted his eyes he'd have seen that I was right there working on the front of my house - he'd have had to trip over me to get to the door.

Mine came through Fastway.

Seemed like a small outfit, but were responsive and flexible when I got in touch with them...

So, predictably enough, I get home and the Chorus engineer has been and gone, despite my week-long efforts to arrange this.

After being unable to get hold of the guy and throwing my toys out of the pram at the unfortunate Slingshot rep that picked up the phone to me I have since managed to get a reply from the engineer and he is coming back round later on...

Sheesh.

What model modem are they using? Was it really only $35?

Think it was less than that...

It is VB104W from Energy Imports.

Seems to work - powers up at least. :)

That said...I am intending to use it bridge mode as I have a high-end Asus DSL router I don't want to leave to waste!

it was $20, $15 for the postage, so i guess if you lived in auckland you could go to the slingshot HQ and pick it up and save on that.

its pretty ugly looking IMO and made of cheap looking plastic. heres some photos

but thats okay because im going to get the chorus person to put the jack in my wardrobe so i can shut it away with my server.

Did they run new cable? from what I have read with Chorus site it should be CAT5e or CAT6 STP (note of the shielded). STP is the recommended type due to susceptible from interference.

No - they just replaced the existing master splitter with a new one...

My modem arrived - but at the wrong address! Mild panic that chorus would turn up at the wrong address.
(Long story - but all sorted) Should be up and running tomorrow arvo.
