I also have a question.  (Slingshot rep or anyone who might know)

What happens if we already have installed a master splitter?
Does chorus still come to check everything is rosy before activating VDSL2?

Thanks.

Yes indeed, Chorus will still send someone out when they go to do your connection.

Cheers,
Chris

Still waiting on any news from Slingshot on this.
We have a VDSL2 capable cabinet <100m away, I've been a Slingshot customer for many years. I don't particularly want to change ISP, but...

AdrianD: Hey guys, we have just been advised our VDSL routers will be arriving in October so we can finally get ready for launch. We have decided to keep pricing really simple and will just add $10 a month to any of our new BIG data broadband plans – it might be slightly more on the unlimited plans given the amount of additional bandwidth we will add. Anyway, the team are working frantically on the project now, so we will keep you posted.

That's some news there.

AdrianD: As a general rule if your line attenuation is <=8.5dB and you're in a VDSL zone then you'll be eligible.  If your attenuation is higher, you may still be eligible - might require some rewiring of your home.

[Not an official statement from Slingshot, just a guideline for those interested]

My Line Attenuation downstream is 32.8db and upstream is 19.3 db.

Does that fall out of 'remote chance' type range?

Unless there's a reason for that high attenuation that can be resolved (faulty cable etc), you're probably  way outside VDSL range. 32db on a clean line would suggest somewhere over 2km cable run, and VDSL is designed for <1.2km or thereabouts. Perhaps there's a closer cabinet they can connect you to or something, though, I have no idea on that aspect.

Ahh - my bad not reading entire thread and seeing that October should be a roll-out date.
My downstream attenuation is 9dB.
There are a lot of unneeded telecom sockets around the house (from the days before cordless phones - seems there's a telecom socket in every room except the bathroom and toilet), and it's easy to intercept the cable where it comes in to the sub-floor space. Is it worth getting rid of these now - and see if that has an improvement on attenuation - or just wait and let Chorus do it when they set it up?

After we swap to VDSL, will we be able to freely swap between VDSl/ADSL plans without any charges? Say I leave the country for a few months, and am on a VDSL plan, would I be able to swap down to a cheaper ADSL plan while I'm away, and then back up to the VDSL plan when I get back home?

We're still sorting out all the finer points of our VDSL roll out. Info like this will be available closer to release :)

Cheers,
Chris

What does the Chorus coverage map say? Line stats aren't the best determination.

Hi Slingshot.

Is there any new details or an ETA on the first sign up date?

We are.... trying to wait patiently, but its VDSL!    We are excited.  :D

Sorry mate, nothing new just yet. I'm super keen too so as soon as I know anything I'll be shouting it from the rooftops :)

Cheers,
Chris
