NZtimbo: Found out today that I can't be migrated to EUBA because our exchange isn't set up for it.

Unbelievable, but totally expected because Telecom in their monopolistic ways took us for a ride all those years ago.

At the moment it doesn't sound like there is a fix other than move to EUBA or move ISP, third world country...

Tim

Moving to EUBA has given me access to google and dropbox again but it's not like the connection's any better:

Little update for you guys.

I've just had word that our IT guys have started putting through bulk migrations for anyone we can. I'll still grab your account numbers if I haven't already as we can make sure you're checked out and put through as fast as possible but the bulk migrations should mean that the load on BUBA will be decreasing quicker.

Thanks for your patience,
Chris

The fact that slingshot have not managed to diagnose what the problem is is rather worrying. It makes me feel that either they do not have the skillset to diagnose the problem, or they know what it is and are not admitting it. Either of those is a worry.

Having said that, my connection seems to have been stable since I was shifted to EUBA.

Still have the issues in Hamilton. I've just gotten off the phone with Slingshot support and they said that because we're ineligible for the switch to EUBA, we'll just have to sit it out until the problem finishes. They refused to waive the disconnection fee for the 2 1/2 months remaining on our contract, but they gave us a $7 monthly discount and one month free service.

I'm the same -- connection is still garbage in Hamilton. I'm not eligible for EUBA either.

Slingshot have told me that the problem should be resolved by Monday night. If it's not, I'm going to have to switch ISP. That's not an ideal option, but I run an online business from home and a lot of my work relies on access to Google Drive and Dropbox. So guess how much my productivity has sucked the last 12 days? Yeah...quite a lot. (Not to mention I can't get FTP access to servers I need quite a lot of the time.)

The only reason I haven't already switched is because of the early disconnection fee. I'd rather not have to fight them on that. I'm not surprised they refused to waive that for you. Respect for customers and fairness in dealing with them is no longer part of the typical ISP's SOP.

That said, if I do have to switch on Tuesday, I won't be paying any penalty fee. Slingshot can't penalize customers for violating a contract when that violation is a result of Slingshot's prior violation. Ie, if they're in violation of the contract by failing to provide the services they agreed to provide, then they haven't got any leg to stand on if I simply ratify their violation by refusing to uphold my end of the contract as well. Now, maybe they've got some ironclad legal verbiage to cover such eventualities, but I'd be willing to bet a small claims court will be less than sympathetic given the circumstances. You can't provide unusable services for two weeks and expect to penalize your customers when they find a new provider out of necessity.

Still problems down here just North of Crappy Dunedin. But only limited to certain sites and online game services etc. It will clear up on or around 12-1am.. Perfect during the day until 430PM.

Same with us, I was thinking I would just refuse to pay the termination fee if I needed to change. They also told me that even if I switch providers, I'll still have the same issues because it is BUBA, which I don't really believe. Does anyone know if this would be true?

Mostly true.  BUBA just sucks.  There is little Slingshot can do about it.  You might not have the specific problem that occurs with Slingshot, but you will always have problems I'm afraid.  Migrating as many people they can to EUBA will lighten the demand on BUBA connections which should correct any issues.  It might take a little while though.

Sometimes what you don't get is a blessing in disguise!
