You (2degrees) need to come out with a lower price break product to compete with Skinny. The value might work out okay with the $19 pack but for someone who just basically wants the cheapest without paying as-you-go data and call rates, 2degrees is now the 20% more expensive option. I know that's making Skinny look good to these eyes.

2DegreesCare:

Yes, there will be something special coming in the next couple of weeks for our valued Pay Monthly customers. :)

Questions

1: I see that there is a one off 2GB carry over data bonus for joining pay monthly before Jan 31.  Is this the "something special" that you spoke of?

2: Are people who switch from a grandfathered plan to a current plan eligible to receive this data?

3: If yes, can I switch at any time and does this take effect straight away or only on my billing anniversary date?

4: If I can switch at any time, are the costs/allocations pro-rated at the time of the switch, and will I be charged for minutes/data if I have gone over the pro-rata allocation month to date (even if I haven't gone over the actual limits so far)?

Thanks

1. Yes this is something special for Pay Monthly, however there is more to come for our Pay Monthly customers.

2: No. Any new Pay Monthly connections will receive the 2GB Carryover Data, so Prepay customers are eligible if they join Pay Monthly. However if you are an existing Pay Monthly customer please feel free to call us on 200 or PM me your number or call 200 and we'll look into it.  This offer is not available for resigns (existing Pay Monthly customers) who sign up to a new plan.

3: Yes, we’ll add the 2GB Carryover Data within 72 hours of the new connection joining Pay Monthly.

4:  When joining as a new Pay Monthly connection, your first allocation is pro-rated and you are billed for a part-month. It is usually active within a few hours of signing up in a store or overnight if done from Customer Care. All Minutes and Data are Carryover, so have the usual 12 month expiry. The bonus 2GB Carryover Data will be added within 72 hours of activation of your plan and will have the usual 12 month expiry. Hope this helps.  Any queries please PM me your number so I can look into it.

Cheers

i don't see why 2degrees would want to do that? sounds like a race to the bottom price-wise, and not all customers make a profit for a business.

you do realise there is a reason why plans don't go below a certain cost point right? at which point it is better to not have that customer, than to support the customer and make a loss on the service.

Quite enjoy my $19 combo, great value and perfect for what I want.. little (very little) bugbear tho, as far as I can see you have to top up by $20 as a minimum.

So what do you do with that lonely little dollar that gets left behind in your account? Or is there a way to only top up $19?

initially i thought that dollar may just build up and effectively get the 20th month free once 19 little dollars were in my account, but i see they expire after 12 months :(

You'll use up the "old" dollars first, so unless you have more than $20 left over your dollars should be less than 2 months old and not expire.  In short - you'll get your free month eventually (unless you spend that $1 on MMS, calling outside NZ, Aus, etc, etc)

On Skinny, Since the combo is $16, When you topup $20 you have $4 left over, You can then use that $4 to buy an addon, Or save it and the next month youll have $8 left over   With the $8 you could buy unlimited texts for a month,
Or for $4 you can buy an extra 200mb of data that lasts 7 days   Ofcourse, If you topup online you can topup exactly $16 (Not sure about 2degrees)   But Im on Skinny and Love it (Although 2degrees is quite cool aswell)

So after 4 months of topping up $20, being on a $16 combo and not spending the extra $4 each month. You have $16. Enough for a $16 combo

Thought about skinny, it was probably my preferred option but the phone i have only works on the Vodafone/2 degrees frequencies so unless i get a new phone i'm stuck.. and there is nothing wrong with my old HTC Wildfire so i'm sticking with 2 degrees for now..

pretty sure one month i'll breach my datacap and all my little spare dollars will disappear in the blink of an eye..

I've swapped over to prepay plus for the deal - it's the 1GB of data that really sells it for me.

I'll likely revert back to the old prepay system once the deal expires, as the data combo on that gives 600MB of data.

If 2degrees ups the data cap on the prepay plus combo, I'll stick with prepay plus.

I don't think you can revert back, if you're referring to the old prepay standard plan?

IIRC we allow you to revert once, but not again. But you might consider staying on Prepay Plus ... I'm sure there will be something to make it worth your while.

If you started on Prepay Standard tried Prepay Plus but it doesn't work out for you, you can move back, but only once...  and there maybe a fee.
