Oh, how underwhelming... For a moment it looked like they had something that would interest me.

I've had another look at their site and 10c per minute national calls and an arbitary limit of 1 phone line? Local call charges for business? That sounds pretty dark ages compared with 2talk.

Hey Michael can you please stop with the ISP bashing? I'd like to think My Republic offer a similar product to BigPipe but do not market solely to Geekzoners.

I have two questions about my Republic; all residential plans are 12 months correct? Also do I have to purchase the other services after my three month trial? UFB installation is expected to be finished in my street by the end of November so I am starting to look around for providers.

yet when I looked at the list, a bunch of them (not all of course, but a good number) are already available in NZ without any sort of trickery, just by having broadband. So how does having Fibre TV 'grant you access'?

I think you and MichaelNZ are now picking at straws.

They are saying you have access to more services because a) it's faster b) limits are different thing from the past.

They are making clear customers should and can explore these services.

Sure, other ISPs provide the same access to services already available in New Zealand. But they are probably trying to get new customers, who never even thought of that before.

Seriously guys you either stop picking on straws now or some people will have a nice holiday for a week.

What do you mean by other services? If you mean the addons (e.g FiberTV), then no I don't think so. There's no obligation to buy after the trail which is nice. It at least means they have to be very good during those 3 months, or no-one is going to stay.

The current plan is to include the into offer for all continuous customers. So, the price will never go up for someone who signs up under the launch promo offer.

And the services are separable, so if you really didn't want a free phone line, I'm sure we could find a way to disconnect it.

We have 12 month only contracts day-1, but we have plans for longer and shorter, but wanted to launch with a more clear offer - fewer options to cause confusion. And since 12 months is standard, that was selected for the initial terms.

So what is the Fibre TV thing, Marc? Is it a smart DNS combined with the high capacity UFB benefits, or is there another dimension to it?

I have another question related to MyRepublic.co.nz.

I had a look at the website today and plugged my address into the address checker and it told me that I was all good to go, but the problem is - I am not.

I check Chorus Maps every week or so and my house/street is nowhere near UFB completion. Not going to be for a few years.

What's the deal here? Are you going to run Fiber down my street just for me or what is the plan if I sign up?

That's interesting, mine shows correctly as "Sorry, your address isn’t fibre broadband ready right now." Maybe you're getting Fiber and Chorus hasn't updated their systems yet ;)

I am sure that you have not read the last few pages of this thread. They did mention that MyRepublic is using 3rd parties data to check the address. If you want certainty, they will need to do a manual check. Give them a call or put through your application - they will inform you if it is not available.

We had a bad dataset loaded last night. We are the fibre experts, and the only nationwide fibre-only company, so we update more often, and one of those updates was bad, giving false positives. We apologize for any inconvenience and request anyone who checked their address last night or this morning to look again.

We would like to think that our address checker has more addresses in it than any other database. I can't go into too many details, as that gives us a competitive edge, but I know of nobody with as many "yes" addresses. Because we are pushing to get as many people connected to fibre as quickly as possible.

On the signup page it says "Register with us below and we’ll extend our FREE 3 month trial to you when your address becomes Fibre Broadband ready.".

When you register the email says "Our awesome 3 months FREE trial offer will be yours to enjoy if your address becomes fibre broadband ready within 12 months. "

This is the first time the 12 month limit is mentioned.

I'm also wondering this myself, I still don't understand what is provided for $15 per month other than getting around the geoblocking.

I'm going to carry on with my Spark order, I think.

It sounds nice, targeting the heavy user demographic, but I think that the Fibre TV offering is being a little disingenuous. Despite being asked directly, Marc hasn't said if this is simply a smart DNS and fibre reliability that lets them create the marketing term of Fibre TV. That's disappointing. No direct response to the discussion would seem to indicate that this is a matter they want to avoid, which makes me think it's just a really expensive version of "global mode" and they're just rolling a turd in glitter.

It sounds like marketing crap to me, and marketing crap that's $15 more than the Callplus companies are offering the same service for, and three times as much as third party smart DNS services. I may not work for an ISP so may not know much about how the product gets delivered, but I know something smells fishy here when it's being openly discussed and the company don't want to talk about it.

Good luck with the venture though.

Im really interested to see how the gamer plan stacks up against standard plans and plans from other ISPs.

If anyone has fibre and signs up for the gamer plan, please do let us know how it goes.

Would also like to know which games are benefited too.
