Yabanize: Well, Big pipe does $79 and they don't have traffic management. So around that mark? Have you considered removing the traffic management like orcon has?

They do actually re BigPipe.

We have a traffic management policy which allows us to prioritize time-sensitive traffic (e.g. VOIP and gaming) over non time-sensitive traffic (e.g. peer to peer) at busy times. See our no data cap FAQ for more details. We have not currently implemented this but may choose to do so in the future.

May means we will at any point...

In regards to dropping it completely, we feel it's a better way to maintain a high quality service. 30% of our sales join our No Data Cap plan so must be doing something right :)

Arguably Orcon's approach of simply adding more international bandwidth can have it's own issues - if you don't have enough everything slows, not just P2P etc.

Ahh I see, I see may as we will only do it if we have to, and so far they havnt needed to, and they hope not to It says on their site "We don't have a fair use policy based on the amount of GBs you can download. If people start doing stupid things that hurt the network, we might have to implement something, but it will only be to stop people being unfair. Please play nice. "

How much does flips traffic manangement affect p2p though? Just wondering, will it slow down to a crawl?

We're kind of in the same boat. We have it but it's hardly ever used, maybe once last month.

We'll slow p2p to 128k if needed.

Now that BigPipe are watching, I wonder if they can bring their prices down further since they have cut away the clutter?

Flip can and we've been reported to have the fastest ADSL download speed for the last three months in a row by Truenet.

I don't hold too much sway in Truenet testing,  but it's not terribly surprising you have good download times when you limit your customers to only those on LLU gear/cabinets.  You won't have any rural customers on 1-3Mbps conklins skewing your average.   (one of the reasons why truenet testing isn't always that useful)

As for pricing, we've only just launched, so who knows what will happen in the future, but pretty comfortable with our pricing right now. The right mix of value and providing heaps of international bandwidth.  We're already $11 cheaper than the closest equivalent - Slingshot with their naked unlimited @ $90

Anyway,  I'll have to bow out of this thread now as it's getting decidedly off-topic, and Mauricio doesn't like ISPs posting in each other's threads.  If anybody wishes to discuss Bigpipe stuff we have our own forum.

Scott, say Hi to Mike Shirley for me, and ask him how his cycling is coming along  :-P

Also note Telecom (whom you are a part of) are doing it for $89 so you're $10 cheaper

Yes everyone has an opinion on Truenet although most major ISP's use it (and pay for the privilege) as benchmarking tool so we're pretty happy that it's a good indication of performance.

Every ISP has it's quirks which feed into the results but the bottom line is we're on top and our customers don't complain about speeds :)

We could compare Facebook book reviews if you want direct customer feedback. Last I looked we're slightly ahead.

As you said let's leave it at that, just would have been rude not to reply.

Will stay hello to Mike. All the best Bigpipe.

You're cheaper than Slingshot -- but slingshot bundle a $10 VoIP line.  So only cheaper if your customer doesn't want the VoIP line.
