linw: Orcon is getting boring. All works fine for me but there doesn't seem to be any activity to get us excited.

Other ISP's are getting on with Global mode, faster speeds, bigger caps etc but we are yawn and ho hum.

Anything to look forward to, guys?

(Just a bit of a fun question. I appreciate the work done behind the scenes to improve speed and reliability and I greatly appreciate santa's little helpers, here).

PS If it is commercially sensitive, just whisper.

Lets ask this a diferent way.

What would you like to see Orcon do, which would excite you?

Bring back free bundled national calling and/or increase data on 30/80gb plans and reduce prices in line with slinghot's :P

I'd love to see Orcon fibre close that download rate @ 9pm gap with Snap on Truenet reports. :) Also jumping on gigabit speeds asap. ISPs have one job - to provide the fastest internet possible as cheap as possible.

Course, in a market as competitive as this, I doubt you need me to tell you. :P

Hey guys I'm getting sick of Genesis. Their power isn't exciting anymore, I would prefer to use Meridians exciting power since they have a mediocre comedian heading a tv campaign!!

Seriously its internet, its basically a utility.

Latency times from here to Australia now if they were to improve man that would get me excited. Then when im playing CS GO I would get some rego and feel like I was play the game on the same day larf . I got an email from orcon last month about new 100 fibre plans any idea when there coming out?

i think OP wants the unlimited plans to be cheaper :P

cant say i disagree but if you're bored with your wonderful internet, have a look at all the american isp's with their heavy shaping of Netflix and YouTube.

from what i read online nz's internet is 1000000000000x better

Nah, unlimited is WAY over my usage. I did say I was a UFB minnow!

The basic plan is tight on 30GB at times. Even a hike to 40GB would be welcome. Yes, I do know another $10/mth would fix it but 30GB hasn't changed for at least 2 yrs and is lower and dearer than Slingshot's 40GB for $69.

But, hey, I'm not complaining/moaning, just asking whether any changes for minnows was in the wind.

Just guna throw my two cents worth in here, if I was looking for an internet connection for my home, something that really appeals to me personally rather than the fastest internet would be something like or similar to roll over data, which I know some ISP's are already offering. That would heavily sway my buying decision anyway

Does anyone else think that is something that more ISP's should be looking into, after all, if you're on a capped plan, you buy X amount of data, if you don't use it, you've still paid for it. As in other threads, internet for home users is fast becoming a commodity, I think some more features like roll-over-data which 2 Degrees have pioneered for their mobile plans, is just another great part of a bigger package that the ISP's could/should be offering, removing the need for unlimited data plans if you know what your monthly usage is (which I'm guessing most folk on here do) you can buy accordingly so that you would have maybe 50Gb per month more than you needed just in case and have that rolling over.. so that when the random high usage months come along, which they do every now and again, you have that buffer to chew through.

Just my two cents worth anyway

Maybe 2 years ago that would have been good, but right now, with so many unlimited data plans in the market that don't seem to be having the 'throttled' nature of yesteryear, rollover data seems pretty pointless.

Moving from unlimited to roll over would be a huge step backwards. One of the main benefits of unlimited is not having to worry about how much data you are using. Going back to watching every GB would be awful. Right now, it doesn't even enter my mind.

Should only have a single unlimited plan, with options to have rate shaping/prioritization removed for x number of hours per day, with the user able to choose when those hours are.

ie,
$10 extra a month to have 3 hours per day unshaped
$20 extra a month to have 5 hours per day unshaped
$30 extra a month to have 10 hours per day unshaped

Numbers are just for an example.

Gives you a way to provide a cheaper service for some people, and a competitive service for those power users too.

Might be a problem comparing to ISPs like BigPipe or Vocus Communications who simply don't shape at any time because they have bucket loads of bandwidth.

Vf and telecom have bundled sky in the past. How about bundling lightbox, and doing some, fancy shmancy networking stuff to make it run as well as possible, and unmetering it on your lower plans.

Content is shaping up to be pretty good, and it's a local service hosted in Nz, so you might actually save some bandwidth vs your customers using netflix or bit torrent.

I know lightbox is a spark thing, but they've said it is open to any ISP, so it might be possible.
