FireEngine:
adw: So that's okay then.  Don't worry about a modest number of your customers (and their clients) and affecting their livliehoods.

As you are personally aware, I take every customer issue seriously, hence spending my own time on here. I was simply responding to the suggestion that thousands of customer's are affected - which is a wild exaggeration based on no data.

I'd suggest you call the team as directed in the email, you will find they are only to willing to assist as outlined above, my apologies that the email didn't make that clear.

Thanks FireEngine, I didn't have anything scheduled in for the next week or so.....  And as we have calls outstanding for several months, my faith in that system is also sorely tested.

Is Orcon planning to get rid of Iserve - is this death by a thousand cuts?

I was assured by their manager that they wouldn't be, as I questioned this entire thing yesterday. Infact they told me that it was quite the contrary, and they would be upgrading the linux platform significantly.

I have has a nightmare with this. I had them move my clients websites from windows to their Linux platform, as most appeared to be static, and asked that everything be tested so ftp etc all worked But I have now got clients websites down with server errors, and they don't work during the weekend. The gold support line which is supposed to offer 24 7 support for life plan users also doesn't work.

That support was withdrawn some 2yrs ago so it really isnt a case of it doesnt work.

That was an executive decision at the time with a lot of legal work so the position was understood and customers given plenty of time to migrate if required.

I was never informed it was removed. It was part of the features of the lifeplan.

Orcon also removed the secure server last year that we'd been using for years.  No notification just bang - this took people's payments securely and caused a lot of strive but as far as they were concerned it was just too bad.

The non-renewal of PCI-compliance was brought to a head after some nine months of discussion as I'm sure you are aware. Shared hosting by definition is not PCI-compliant, I'm sure this was made clear at the time but let me know if you need any of the correspondence resending...

I'm a little confused. We have a no limits iSERVE hosting account with in the region of 40-50-odd domain names hosted as well as 10 or so websites (a mix of Windows and Linux) and this is the first I've heard of this.

Are we affected by this or is it specifically for Orcon hosting and not iSERVE hosting??

Yes you are affected, as it is iserve.  I am on the same plan as you too. Did you get contacted about the removal of the gold support a year or so ago?

No. We get very little contact from iSERVE/Orcon even when requested!

I've tried to find any information on the Orcon website and there is nothing. Except it's still telling me that I can sign up to their hosting plans and still get Windows or Linux hosting.

A bit misleading Fireman, you had a PCI-compliance server which had all the certification necessary and we'd used for years.  When it came to recertification by Orcon the second time no notice was given that you weren't going to recertify, you just pulled the plug.  Leaving us in a very expensive hole and our clients without the ability to take money.  Your finance director at the time had previously recertified and given no indication this wouldn't continue.  It was handled very unprofessionally with a shrug of the shoulders and a 'We're just not going to do it anymore' with no notice.  I guess we should thank our lucky stars we got three days notice on this one.

Certainly odd that they are still advertising windows hosting on their website.

I've raised that with the product teams responsible.
