Despite all reports to the contrary, it's great!

Google already have my credit card details in Wallet, which is automatically used when I buy apps. So I don't really understand how this is beneficial for customers, unless you think deferring payment is a good thing. I don't need to defer $10/mo for apps though.

2DegreesCare:
saeran: Kinda disappointing.  It would've been great to see 2degrees do plans with Google Play Music included, the same way Telecom has plans with Spotify included.

The 3 month free Google Play Music is available to all customers Prepay and Pay Monthly.

Yeah that's fine, but this is a one-off 3 month deal.  What happens after that?  By looks, nothing.

One of the chief advantages of carrier billing is that folks on Prepay who may have a stack of credit sitting around doing nothing have significantly more options to use that credit than just more of the telco's services, e.g. rent a movie or buy an app or similar. Works nicely for folks too young to have a debit or credit card (As well as folks with a poor credit history).

Would have been of greater value before Google Play gift cards became available locally, but it's still useful to be able to top up in a single location and use that credit for a wider range of products and services than were previously available - and 2d will undoubtedly be getting a small percentage of each purchase made. Win-win and nice to see in this market. :)

I did not think of those people. I guess I never do. I would say, however, that these aren't a target demographic for most companies beyond those selling cheap smartphones. I think people are on prepay for two reasons: either they don't use the device enough to justify it, or they have no money.

Some devs I've talked to, however, are shy of the Android marketplace, because even though there's a bigger market share, there's issues with developing for wider ranges of hardware, and Android users buy fewer apps and they get less money from Google. From memory, I think iOS users account for something like five times the total spend of Android users, and spend double the average spent by Android users. This is even though Google has more active users and a bigger market share.

My guess is that this will mostly be used for in-game purchases (Candy Crush?) rather than people spending money on actual apps for productivity and the rest of it.
