I am keen on updating to 59/95 plan.. but I want a newer Fritzbox 7490.. better wifi etc.. But 2degrees not keen.. they wanted me to pay.. even though I have had the old modem 3 years... and I am ok to return old modem?

I did the same thing...upgraded to the 7490. Was worth doing for the 802.11ac but I did have to pay - but they do have it at a discounted rate for customers of 2Degrees.

I can kind of see why they would not be keen to give the more expensive box away for free - for me, it was worth paying the extra.

I am a long term Snap customer and I am currently on 100/20 unlimited with VoIP for $95.95 with 6 months remaining.

Wanted to change to this so I could go 200/200 with VoIP for $118.98 and was told that I would have to pay a $249 early termination fee. I said I didn't need the new modem and that surely as a goodwill gesture they could waive the early termination fee and recoup most of that by not needing to supply me a new modem ($165). They said no.

I informed them in 6 months when my contract is up they will be losing a customer.

that's mad. they could say you can extend your current plan by 2 years so you have 2 years 6 Monty contract.

not need to terminate current plan

this is just a shining example of people in call centres following scripts and not common sense or even being aware of the flexibility that there might be....you will get that in any/most companies these days sadly :(

Actually the girl I spoke with went to talk to a supervisor twice. She was very apologetic about it, but was apparently just instructed that they could not do it. I understand that they have rules and aren't upset with the customer service people, was just disappointed by the lack of flexibility they seemed to be allowed to offer.

@2degreesCare has offered to sort it for me which I appreciate, but I think I might weigh up my options more now before committing another 24 months.

chusli: The way I see it, I have no intention to switch provider so I'm currently just paying my 95/month so this gives me a discount of 36/month for 12 month, then I'm back to normal. Even if I would break contract after a year and pay the $249 exit fee, I still would be better off.

It would suck if the going rate is $75 in a years time though ($85 unlimited with homeline is easily achievable now), but if your happy then all good.

When you say in a year do you mean a year later or in a few months? If you mean the former, then why would it suck? If you've made up the difference, you've made up the difference. If 2degrees tell they won't let you change to a new 2degrees plan for $249 but will let you change to a different ISP for $249 (as they have to), well tell them they're losing a customer.... (As others have said, there are other options already, but that's a different point.)

P.S. Forgot to clarify but if it has been a year and it's $75 vs $95, it doesn't really make much sense to break your contract to get that $249 (as your savings in that year will be less than $249). So in that way it may still "suck" to be paying $95. But since you paid $59 while people we paying $95 you're the one better off so it should suck less. In fact, looking at the difference it's only like 3 months that you have to be paying $59 while others pay $95, after those 3 months even if it comes down to $75 for the next 21 months you're still better off to be paying the $59/$95. Ignoring issues like if you're going to spend the extra and then have money problems later, and existing other ISP offers for the reasons mentioned before.

Had Spark knock on the door yesterday offering their $109.99 unlimited 100/20 plan with local calls for $79.99 on new 12-month contract.

Which city is this? Will they offer that over the phone or in-store?

The website still has the deal up, but it says you have to book it before 12 July - ie 4 days ago. Is it still available or has the promotion finished?

I called up 2degrees to sign up for this today (still on the phone actually). Hit 9 for broadband, then 1 for signing up. Talked to a guy who told me the offer wasn't available to existing customers, but to go back to the menu and hit 2 to talk to them about options. After 15 minutes of waiting I gave up (hanging up now).

While I was waiting I was on Google and discovered BigPipe is $79 for 100/20 with unlimited data, with their main downside being you can't call them - but online support is meant to be ok. Truenet says their performance is ok, similar to 2degrees but not quite as good in peak times. Consumer doesn't even rate them, so I can't get a satisfaction score. So maybe I give up on 2degrees and go to Bigpipe. That's pretty a disappointing given I was calling up 2degrees to commit to a 2 year contract.

If you're happy with a 2 year contract then look at voyager. $69 month.

I've just gone VDSL with them (moved from 2 Degrees ADSL) and it was painless.  Other providers told me I could only get ADSL at my place.

I'm sure there are others round here who use them.
