Hi, here's my problem.

For the last few days I've been unable to access the Slingshot homepage.  Pretty much just the homepage, and the help pages, and the visibill site.  The page connection times out on every one with the "The server at slingshot.co.nz is taking too long to respond" message.

However, when I connect through a foreign proxy, I can access these pages no problem.

This happens on all browsers and devices on the home network (i.e. Slingshot mobile app).  Resetting router has no effect.  I don't have any viruses or anything, at least I've never heard of one that only blocks you from your ISP's homepage.

It's almost as if the page is being blocked for my IP and my IP alone.  It's like Slingshot hates me or something.

The internet works fine otherwise.  Except for - Youtube.  The site loads, but videos most often do not, not without substantial delay. This happened at the same time.

If anyone has any ideas, I'm open to them.  I'm guessing it might help to have my IP changed?

Anyway, thanks for listening.

Checked at work (on Callplus), slingshot.co.nz loads quickly.

What DNS servers are you using?

Thanks for the reply.

I did try changing DNS when it first happened, as I thought that might be responsible.  However I was using Slingshot's default DNS anyway (202.180.64.10 and 11) so they really shouldn't have been the culprit!

No luck though.

I guess you need to log a support call with Slingshot then. Seems a bit odd alright.

If anyone's interested, this situation has finally been resolved.

I called Slingshot a week ago and managed to get their call centre to escalate the matter to a support request.  I haven't heard anything since then.  Today, the connection with the Slingshot homepage spontaneously re-established itself.  Youtube and other Google sites also connect immediately, rather than after five minutes.

Having done nothing on this end, other than run a million tests, this would appear to confirm that the fault was with Slingshot.  Probably they've flicked a switch down somewhere that was meant to be up.  But how would you know?  They don't tell you anything.  And if they've left me a message on their webmail, I'll never get it, because that's never let me log in from the beginning.  Despite having sent them an email about it.  Which they didn't answer.

So for all I know the problem will re-occur at any moment.

Pretty sure I'll move to another ISP as soon as my contract runs out.  I know I was an idiot for going with the McDonalds of ISPs in the first place, but I took a calculated risk due to the cheaper cost.  Today I learned: Never prioritise price over quality.

Cheers
