2degrees speedtest this morning 420/240

few hours later changed to bigpipe (2d go suck on this, apparently 2d claim the issue is on my network, I beg to differ)

What a prick of a response. He's paying for a service, he should get what he pays for and now he is.

Bigpipe might have a 10Gb link off for speedtest results and 2D might have a 1Gb link

Placing so much weight on just speedtest results is pointless

Bigpipe don't host any speedtest servers.

Good on you for using your imagination.

Speedtest.net is actually part of 2D support queries when diagnosing issues with speed. They themselves say users on gigabit should be getting gigabit speeds from their speedtest.net host, not half or a third of it.

@Linux

I don't care much for Facebook, Trademe and whatever else social stuff is out there, however, when it comes to streaming, it makes a difference, I have a house full op people that stream Netflix, Youtube, Showmax and family tapping into my Plex server, then yes, it makes a difference.

Considering that 2degrees host their own speedtest.net servers, and they've stated publicly they're on 10gbit links, it does seem odd to me that @chriscal is getting better speeds with another provider.

One can only speculate as to the reasons behind the difference in throughput, but I'm inclined to agree with his conclusion that the cause of his issue was somewhere on the 2degrees network.

i don't think that he was ever testing to the 2degrees servers, he said he was using some ACS data one in Welly

Just a note, I've tested them all in wlg, akl and chc...not one gave me anything above 450/250...acs...which was the fastest of them all on 2d. The big test is obviously tonight during peak.

*yawn* it would be really cool to see some international speed tests (e.g. to Los Angeles/San Francisco) -- that is where different providers will make much more difference!

The fact that your local NZ speed tests were crap shows that you clearly had an issue with your 2d setup, which is disappointing I agree, but not very interesting :)
