I was just going to add make sure you're testing via Ethernet also.

If you're trying to game and download via WiFi it would explain the super high latency.

your modem is connected at 54/9 so you should be seeing that, if your not, its likely to be an issue on your network, so you need to eliminate your network first

sbiddle:

WHat happens when you run speedtest.net to an Orcon server rather than the tests you're doing?

Pardon my ignorance but is one of these Orcon? I tried searching orcon with no results

I also just noticed this while changing the server:

Is that correct if I'm based in Auckland to show Napier? And also showing Slingshot as the provider?

I do have a static IP address assigned to me for work.

Vocus group will be the server on beta.speedtest.net and linetest.nz is hosted by them too. (Vocus group is parent company of Orcon/Slingshot/Flip ISPs)

IP addresses for newly provisioned connections will show 'Slingshot' for both Slingshot and Orcon customers.

There was a thread a few months ago with someone having issues due to static IP not being provisioned properly and duplicated across more than one customer, not sure if it could be that? http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=82&topicid=199088

Interesting - I haven't looked into that being the issue. Best to just give Orcon a buzz to check this? I'm guessing this is something they can check?

Unfortunately not though the modem I have is only 3 weeks old. Was replaced by orcon in the course of trying to fix this.

Whereabouts are you?

I note the latency is far too high high if you were in Auckland?

Have you tried a test to somewhere else like Christchurch?

There does not seem to be any server in Wellington.

I just tried testing from both Auckland and Christchurch in the last 10 minutes

I get approx 52Mbps download from both Auckland and Christchurch  on nPerf and a latency of approx 4ms from Auckland and 21ms from Christchurch.

I am in Auckland and on UFB 50/10 plan with Compass.

Also as SBiddle suggested try the same tests with Speedtest.net.

They have a few more servers around to test from, maybe you will find one closer to home

I see there is a server in both Hastings and Napier, I presume you are in that vicinity seeing I saw a screenshot of Napier earlier.

Also try Wellington.

@Jedsdad

Im on the Hibiscus Coast north of Auckland which is why Im a bit curious about the IP pointing to Napier. About to call Orcon about this as soon as I get a spare moment

How many devices do you have on both wifi and ethernet, phones, tablets, desktops, NAS, other IOT/smart things?

Change your wifi pasword, and dont reconnect any wifi stuff just yet. Unplug all ethernet stuff except one laptop or pc, then try an orcon speedtest.

Make sure you dont have a torrent or backup software on the pc youre testing with.

Im trying to rule out something saturating your upload bandwidth somehow.

Youre not running a server, or have open ports in your router? Maybe factory reset the router to be sure.
