The youtube link is a screen grap of Orcon't "bandwidth upgrade" effect.
This used to play with no problems using about 1200kbps (average of 800)

I'm guess I'm far luckier than some as the upgrades on Thursday have certainly improved my performance and I'm very happy with that  that.
As far as I can tell I'm back to mid to late April levels of performance but I'm concerned about the general downward trends of bandwidth graphed by Cacti at my home (daily averages).
Bearing in mind that I was away on holdiday from mid feb to mid march (no figures) and my internet activities have remain fairly constant and predictable for the last 3 months the downward trend in performance on my Orcon link is quite disturbing.

Where lucky that the WWDC keynote starts at 5AM Tuesday, our speeds should be fairly good good at that time (I hope!)

I had the same issue as what you have but this was last year, I couldn't even get the non HD version to stream properly, but right now it works fine, and the HD one work fine most of the time now too!

So look like Orcon is doing something right.

Just hope it stays like then even on peak times.

Second night in a row I've had <200kbps International speeds. Perhaps they are throttling speedtests? lol

Can I get an explanation for this?

my FS/FS is 256k!

How about I pay $25 instead of $60 per month?

For all you guys with speed problems after the update: have you checked you line settings, house wiring, filters, everything else to make sure there isn't anything not related to Orcon interfering?

You know that too many devices on a bad house wiring may cause problems, right? Also the distance to the exchange or the condition of the cables.

I am just asking for people to double check those obvious things that a lot forget about.

With all due respect.
I think we are past that one.
Or maybe you haven't noticed the forum's URL.
Just to remind you it's called "geek zone", with the emphasis on GEEK.
Or maybe you haven't noticed any of the previous posts, which go just slightly boyond the "please reset your modem" attitude.

Dauckland you would be surprised that a lot of people visiting the site are not exactly geeks - and some are not tech savvy.

Seriously, I am not asking if you reset your modem today, I am asking if you had the wiring inside the walls checked, filters checked, distance from the exchange checked and other stuff.

I had an intermittent problem with TCL cable and after checking that no one had the same problem in my area I asked for a technician to come around - he replaced a $5 connector on the pole across the street and I haven't had any problems since.

Everything counts. Some people don't realise this.

So yes, I take it personally because I think I am giving a valid piece of advice.

I've noticed the forum URL. There's a reason why I am the Supreme Bean here. Check my credentials - BDFL speaks a lot.

It's obvious it's not my end and its not my exchange. If it was either of these, I wouldn't still be able to get 4Mbps anywhere in the country. I agree with dauckland, you're coming across as a person that's being paid to be Orcon's PR on these forums...

What are you talking about?

Last week I was paid by WorldxChange, the week before paid by Vodafone, and before that by Telecom.

This thread is locked now because some of you are not mature enough to see when someone is playing devil's advocate. Very disappointing.

Because of a couple of you this whole thread is locked. Unfortunately people don't understand when help knocks their door.

I am unlocking this thread for the benefit of everyone who has found problems with Orcon's services.

For those two who implied there's a monetary relationship between Orcon and myself or this forum, the next slip you are both banned. People who can benefit of these forums don't need this kind of attitude around here.

That's it, I give up on Orcon.  Their lack of ability to update us as to what is going on is pathetic.  I'm moving on to a different ISP and taking my customers with me.

Hi Mauricio, I guess anything's possible, although the problems would seem to be a little widespread for it to be wiring.

Let's say for argument's sake that it is, it would be good for Orcon's Support Team to say, "OK we have confidence that everything's groovy at our end, so we'll send a tech out to check the line".

In my experience, after they've exhausted the obvious options, the communication just stops.

Hi Freitasm,

We are all very grateful that you are providing these forums as a mechanism for the community to discuss these issues. Dauckland, myself and others are not really trying to impinge your reputation.

But if you look at your own comments, it feels as if you are defending Orcon, (and Xtra) - defending the undefendable.

The community has used this forum to logically deduce the failure point - and it is beyond doubt that it is not our fault. It is Orcons fault.

Two things are happening.

1. Orcon are throttling or managing bandwidth.
2. Orcon are taking our money and not providing the service.

Simple is as that.

The only question is when will they admit it and fix it or alternatively refund us.

Out of interest, given that your the head honcho here, when you have an internet failure of the nature the community here are facing, what would your do to fix it? And I say this, just to make sure I'm not missing something that people with more experience may know.

I never defended the company. I asked some troubleshooting information from people that still have the problem AFTER the upgrade. I have been reading this thread since the beginning and I know Orcon had problems that you guys helped point out.

But since Orcon said "hey guys we done our part, there was an upgrade that will solve this all" I wanted to make sure we are not seeing a new problem affecting only a small set of people with hardware faults for example. Makes sense?

If I had a problem that TelstraClear couldn't solve after some time I would certainly move to a more reliable service. The fact that I have the same TelstraClear cable modem account for ten years (since the Saturn service) tells you how reliable their service is.

Of course from time to time there are problems. For example in Upper Hutt there was some node problem for months. But I personally never had problems with the service.
