If you want a QOS service pay for one,

Where do orcon advise ping times are going to be under a ms range (I bet they don't)

Johnr - your attitude isn't going to help anyone either!

All we are doing is bring it to Orcon's attention that there is an issue affecting the enjoyment of their service and giving them the opportunity to fix it.

We aren't demanding anything, but because I know how much the guys at Orcon care about providing a excellent service, I'm assured they will do what they can to fix it.

In this case the ping issue is probably slightly beyond their immediate control, as they have to request their transit provider to look into it, and resolve the issue, and until then can only check and remind them.

I work in IT (Software developer) and have access to many client sites remotely, and have experienced pretty much all the ISPs connections. As soon as I had the ping issue (2 weeks before my first post) I dialled in remotely and checked the pings on Xtra. TelstraClear and Xnet - they were all under 90ms, some much lower.

And do you realise you said quality of service service? that's clever!!

(kind of like NT technology.. - bet Bill is still laughing about that one)

kiwipearls: I'm with Vodafone now (ex Orcon, but posted many times here) and have no international speed latency issues what so-ever.

Big improvement.  Also on Xtra I always had perfect International speeds.

From my experiences, I doubt it is becuase of having only one cable.

Well I wonder why so many ISP's (Slingshot, Orcon and Xnet) are all having the same International speed issue... Just seems rather a big coincidence that they all have the same issue in about the same time and for so long, you would say they would know what causes it from last time and would have it fixed allot faster....
Oh and are you on there Red network plan thingy...? or are you on regular ADSL 1?

I haven't bothered checking yet, but do all these ISP's use AsiaNet as their higher tier provider?

PS: I'm also an Orcon customer that's been reading this thread since its conception.  Yep, I too play WoW, use ventrilo, and have had intermittant issues since May(ish).

Well, I've been on Orcon@Home+ for around 8 hours now, and I have to say I'm satisfied in the sense I sync faster to their DSLAM and achieve better national transfer, however I'm extremely dissatisfied with their International performance.

It seems only ingress traffic is affected, egress is not. (From the customers perspective)

Extremely disappointing to say the least. Coming from a Telecom connection my international throughput was great (considering how crap my line is, it matched my national throughput most of the time).

Hmm, I'm seeing similar issues. Got upgraded to Orcon+ today (which is now yesterday), and went great throughout the day. But now something is breaking on international traffic. Speedtest to Syndey just dies (no, hang on, it's going at 30kbps!), as does to Los Angeles. National is racing along fine.

Has something borked on the SCC?

Sounds like something isn't right guys - I am sure that Thomas would be keen to see more information from you if you are able to provide it.

You should definitely log a support ticket as well.

Already done so. Ref # PFR-152632

Have also had Telecom run a service order to migrate my line back to their equipment. Unfortunately it's going to take several days to run through. They've about rivalled you on price with the look of the new plans, and provide an a decent experience.

I hope Orcon don't plan or charging me for all this is all I have to say! Might be back once I've seen solid evidence that these faults have been resolved however until then I'm going to jump off the proverbial sinking ship.

Folks. I am locking this thread now.

As you know the ISP is aware of the issue. I believe many of you have already called their help desk and made your opinions known. If not, I recommend you do it so.
