I've been experiencing repeated and intermittent dropouts on my home fibre link with Slingshot for a few months now. I'm 100% sure the issue is in the house. I've had a cableGuy come along and check his wiring work - he's happy with that. Sshot have already sent me a new router; another to arrive next week to swap out. I asked if I can upgrade the firmware on that router but they say their settings will be lost - fair enough.

Looking on PBTech I can see that my NF4V is branded for ADSL+VDSL. The next models up are for ADSL+VDSL+Fibre. I'm wondering if I upgraded to the next model [NB16WV], labelled for fibre, if this would be of any advantage at all?

Is anyone able to comment on this please as I'm also curious why Sshot offer ADSL+VDSL to customers with Fibre connections.

I run a NF4V on Slingshot fibre and it works fine.  I did have a few problems with DNS and with WLAN being isolated from the LAN, but these were fixed with a firmware upgrade.

I saved all my settings before upgrading the firmware, but the upgrade process actually preserved the original settings anyway.  Mine is on firmware version GURNV5.OT132A-8-NC.AU-R5B035.EN

Thanks. I've turned off wireless as I have a Ruckus device running that. Big improvement.

When you say you saved all of your settings, which do you mean as there are a lot?

Did you go through every page and write down what was there or is there another way?

I think I'll do the firmware upgrade before I swap out, just to see what happens. I don't have the latest firmware  -but you do.

I think I may have issues now with an NF4V.

On VDSL / 17a. Have master splitter (Chorus install).

Have been getting regular outages.  Was getting a very steady ~65/33 sync rate for the past year.

After the first series of outages a week or so ago that dropped to about 25/15.  It creeps back up with DLM, then drops out again and resets to slow speed.

After it drops out, I lose the ethernet connection to the modem - can only access it via wifi.  This seems a bit odd to me - suggests that it's a modem issue not a line issue.

It's set to sync internet time, when I apply/save the setting it's fine.  At some stage after that it defaults back to Nov 19 2011 next time I check.  Have checked that it's not a loose power connector or plug - all seems fine.

There were some chorus guys doing work on the cabinet I'm connected to - I didn't see them, but they left off-cuts of twisted pair cable on the footpath.

Sorted - presumably this.

Fixed within 24 hours of giving the go-ahead (wanted to check wiring etc from my end first).
