Wondering if the Oppo R11s will get support and I am guessing I will need to change to the 2 degrees software for the phone to do this.

I wonder how this works in areas of poor quality wifi?

My current employer has a powerful cisco 802.11AC network which is hobbled by hosting hundreds of users in the building, and having perverse throttling on the backhaul so that just 2mbps is available.

In this case I DON'T want my calls using wifi.

I have 1.5Mbps uplink on my VDSL. It works fine. Sure, if someone is saturating the uplink it's a problem

I have used it on the free Wifi at Sydney airport (so did Bill Bennett actually). If it was a case of my work Wifi and the phone was going to be dropping off it all day because it was so overloaded, I probably wouldn't use it there. But then again, if the Wifi was that bad, I probably just wouldn't use the Wifi there anyway. I have more cellular data than I can possibly use already.

I just got a software update on my note 8 today. Was quite excites thinking it was for the Wi-Fi calling but nope nothing yet. So will continue to wait. Any other note 8 users get the update and can they access Wi-Fi calling yet?
Cheers

I was told at the 2Degrees shop when I bought my Mate 10 WiFi calling would be coming for my model too. My phone appears to have regional firmware not customised by 2Degrees. I can't wait wait for it to arrive as I live on a boundary area where Vodafone signal is fine but phone won't auto roam to it as it can *just* see it's home network.

@Wills747 Just confirming you purchased the Mate 10 from a authorised 2D dealer?

The mate 10 is not showing on the coming soon list so you may be out of luck

Yes, was from 2degrees shop in pukekohe. Last firmware update supposedly added volte and WiFi calling but it doesn't show up in settings and as you said is not on their website list.

No carrier in NZ offers VoLTE yet so I would be surprised if the last update enabled Wi-Fi calling or VoLTE

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

It's a regional firmware, not NZ or 2degrees specific. Just a wait and see game I guess.

Other handsets will be rolled out in the coming months. iPhone, depending on certification (probably 5s and newer). Other Samsungs although I don't know the exact order or list of models, and longer term probably other vendors.

Any updates on when iPhones will be enabled?

Since this is well established elsewhere in the world, surely it’s just a switch flipping excercise through Apple?

There is a definite planned date for it now, but I'm afraid it's not up to me to announce it. It is indeed just a switch-flipping exercise, but Apple have a lot of is to dot and ts to cross before they'll certify. As I understand it there are fewer than usual opportunities to release Apple carrier bundles this year than there have been in the past so it has been tricky to get all the switches ready to flick.

Looks like the iPhones have been added (Mid April) along with a few other models :-)

Has anyone tried this on a rooted android phone? Had a quick squiz on a few xda and reddit threads, and provided operator + hardware support this, then adding the following to your build.prop file should get it to work?

# Debug Options
persist.dbg.ims_volte_enable=1
persist.dbg.volte_avail_ovr=1
persist.dbg.vt_avail_ovr=1
persist.dbg.wfc_avail_ovr=1

# Radio Options
persist.radio.rat_on=combine
persist.radio.data_ltd_sys_ind=1
persist.radio.data_con_rprt=1
persist.radio.calls.on.ims=1

And also enable things in the hidden dialer menu via  *#*#4636#*#*

You need a bit more than that to make it work, I'm afraid. The addresses of our gateways, for example.

Handsets aren't really my area, but for what it's worth I haven't heard of any issues.

As an iPhone user, what do I need to do to enable this when it goes live for iDevices?

Once the carrier bundle/iOS update is installed it's super simple.
Flick the on-off switch in the Phone page of the Settings app. Same with most phones actually.
