Linux: Trying to get Wi-Fi calling working on my mum's iPhone SE and it's a no go

Wi-Fi calling is enabled any tips?

No problems activating WIFI calling on the wife's Iphone SE.

I just searched Wifi calling when in the settings menu and it brought it up to enable it

Not working for my Mum and iPhone was purchased from 2Degrees, I will look into further over this coming weekend

My wifi calling didn't appear kick in (the carrier version needs to be at 32.1 if I recall comments earlier in the thread) until I ran the latest OS update over night. It might pay to make sure the devices have the latest OS first.

On iPhone X the “2degrees WiFi Calling” text doesn’t show on the home screen like it does on non-notch iPhones - which can be a bit confusing because it’s not obvious that it’s turned on.

Need to swipe down to the Control Centre screen to see it in the top LH corner of that screen.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Security team assures me the tunnel setup is standard IKE as well, so UDP 500 as well as 4500 should do the trick.

I'd forgotten that UMA was still around.... thought it had died a death back in 2012 but there you go :-)

Is it correct there is a differential dial and ring tone? noticed it calling my wife (me on wifi her on 3G). SOunds like PSTN->Cell tones

Yes, but I can't give any indication of which ones or when. The net will be extended as widely as possible as soon as possible.

Yes, probably - the cellular and VoWifi services run on separate cores. Cellular is circuit-switched, whereas VoWifi is IMS (3GPP's flavour of SIP/VoIP) and so the tones are generated in different equipment.

IMS was an albatross, quite frankly, until 3GPP decided to make it the One True Way to do VoLTE. The core we built to launch VoWifi will host the VoLTE service too with very little extra effort. (The RAN, on the other hand, needs a lot of work, from what we hear from other operators).

That I can certainly find out in particular, but I can tell you already the basic transport is an IPSec tunnel between the handset and our gateway so you'll need at least the normal stuff open for IPSec. After that, everything is inside the tunnel so it shouldn't matter. I currently appear to have a virtual connection open to 118.149.14.20 UDP 4500 according to my router but that's for the open tunnel. Maybe the normal ports for IKE?

What are the normal things that need to be open for IPSec to work? I think this could be my problem in not being able to get wifi calling to work on two different (like my daughter's and mine that are 200km apart) NF4V routers hooked up to Orcon fibre. I have an S8 on which wifi calling works on other wifi, including using my wife's phones hotspot and public wifis, as a connection but won't work on at least these two Orcon supplied routers.

I don't profess to know much about internet tunneling but I believe vpns work through a similar process and IPVanish is able to set up a vpn through the same network. Any help would be much appreciated.

IKE (tunnel setup) is UDP 500 and then UDP 4500 for IPSec main tunnel when behind a NAT. Your router must properly handle UDP NAT - you'll have to have one that does stateful connection tracking. I have an NF4V but I only use it as a PPPoE modem, not a router, so I can't comment on whether they can be configured appropriately or not.

You shouldn't need to open the ports specifically to an IP address, but the IPSec gateway is 118.149.14.20.

I've noticed that "Wi-Fi calling on iCloud connected devices" as Apple calls it isn't supported. Is this something 2degrees enables or Apple? It'd be nice to be able to use the watch or iPad to make/receive a call even if the phone's battery dies.
