rugrat: Does it still cost per call or use up minutes like when using cellular network?

Just seeing if benefit is being able to do calls on more devices or if other benefits.

It should come out of your plan minutes. I don’t think I’ve seen a carrier overseas charge extra for this.
The benefit is less load on the network as people use wifi for calls instead, and benefit for customers is better call experience where the network doesn’t reach (i.e rural).

I doubt 2degrees will charge for this service but who knows. All speculation until it officially launches I gues.

That's because it's a product that really nobody cares about. Yawn.

It's typically networks that have terrible performance that deploy it (T-Mobile being a classic example).

Wifi Calling and VoLTE would be great - then they'd just need to work on expanding their LTE footprint with Band 28, and populating towers along highways that the competitors have already been using for yonks - I'm getting a tad tired of SH23 having no coverage between Whatawhata and Raglan, they just need to get on that Te Uku tower.

While you might yawn about the idea, it does sound very much the same as Project Fi by Google.

Considering how prevalent UFB & RBI where in 2015, it certainly makes more sense now.

At work we have reasonable WiFi coverage over most of the site but to get Vodafone coverage we also have to have a couple of repeaters (each with multiple antennas) and half a dozen Sure Signals. If they had WiFi Calling .....

Outside the building coverage is fine, pretty reasonable 4G. Inside the building or in its shadow, not so much.

Fixed line quality voice only needs 64kbps each way, so that's not an issue.

@chevrolux how much bandwidth do you think a voice call would require? 5Mbp/s would have no issue you could half that speed and half it again and half it again and still maintain a voice call no problem

When Ah were yoong, we sent ahr voice calls over 2.048Mbps chahnnelised E1s with 64kbps per chahnnel oop-ill both ways, and we looved it.

iPad Pro 11" + iPhone 15 Pro Max + 2degrees 4tw!

Vodafone ITZ worked that way and was a great product
