gobtob: Do myrepblic have GCNAT as well? Looking to switch to them as 2degrees added $10 to my account so I can use the internet as intended. I love the fritzbox though, wonder if I can keep using it if I switch to another provider.
@gobtob Call 2degrees and request the static to be free or request the static to be removed as 2d have made some changes just yesterday to CGNAT

I manage two residential fibre connections and use home office locations, remote desktop, and site-to-site backups over the fibre and everything broke when I was offsite trying to work and remote back and forth between my main place of work and the two different home offices. After pulling my hair out and finally getting back home I can see that both connections have been switched over to CGNAT yesterday. They still had public IPv4 addresses as of last week.
Honestly, the lackluster pace that the internet has taken with adopting and rolling out IPv6 caused me to push it to the backburner and wait for it to become more mainstream. As such, I'm not really savvy with IPv6, so I have a question here...
Is 2D just doing CGNAT on the IPv4 range? Can I still find ways to directly connect to remote desktop clients, NAS and other devices if I fully deploy and start using IPv6? Or is IPv6 also going through the CGNAT, too?
CG-NAT is only an IPv4 solution, IPv6 was designed to get around having to need IPv4 fall back to such solutions as it grew. So to answer your question, IPv6 has no concept of CG-NAT, a public IP for each and every device is at the heart of IPv6.

Yeah, I'm trying to give myself a crash course in IPV6 right now. So if I can figure out how to navigate this, I could still find and directly connect to devices connected to 2D via IPv6? For example, I rely on frequently remote desktop accessing a variety of computers as well as accessing a NAS and some other connected devices. What I don't understand is how to locate them? I was relying on Dynamic DNS and portforwards to do this in the IPv4 world.
I was unable to access my openVPN server this morning. I called up 2Degrees CS and the person advised me that I was not on CGNAT "yet" and I will be informed of this if they put me on it.
I arrived home and as I expected I was on CGNAT. My WAN ip was different to my public IP and it was in the 100.x.x.x range. So I call up 2Degrees again and this time the CS immediately picks up that I'm on CGNAT. I explain to her why I need to be moved off CGNAT and a few minutes later I was offered a FREE static IP.
Well done 2Degrees! I have been a customer since Snap days and seems like I'll be staying. 🤘

Assuming that this is true, why haven't they communicated this to affected customers (such as myself) who have a ticket for CG-NAT issues? To date (over 1 week now, maybe 2) I have had no response whatsoever from 2degrees after multiple phone calls.

Annoying. 2degrees has enabled CGNAT on my UFB connection as well and they close their support line at 10PM now. It use to be 24/7 during Snap days! Will call them tomorrow and request to revert to dynamic IPv4 like before or they can provide a free static.
Edit - Called them today morning and after 5 minute discussion with their technical and me being a long time customer, they provided me with a free static IP. All sorted.
I noticed my noip DDNS wasn't working a day or two ago but it also coincided with an update on my machine that handles the IP updates so didn't think too much of it.
I finally looked into it last night and figured it was this issue so gave 2D a call this morning and explained my remote desktop and DDNS was failing and that I assumed it was due to the CGNAT change. The tech agreed and after a few minutes on hold they assigned me a static IP which is good. They remotely restarted my modem and everything updated fine with no input from me so i'm happy.
When 2degrees gives you a static IP does it include a static IPV6 prefix as well?
Ugh, my plex server suddenly stopped working, figured the router had given up the ghost. Got a new router, figure out I'm on CGNAT. They try to put me on static but the Asus router wouldn't configure to it, but works fine with the standard connection. They couldn't give me the information to set-up the static manually, so now I have spent $170 on a router just to have them tell me I have to use their trash router which will take a week to get here...
