Well the techs arrived today and got the ONT working and let me set up the NF18ACV for fiber because they weren't familiar with that aspect.

 

Got that working but the VOIP setup alludes me. It seems I have to accept a replacement NF18 from Slingshot they say due security issues I cant set up the VOIP myself.

 

Ive tried as attached, using my slingshot login password.

 

 

 

It worries me a bit because I dont like having yet another modem (Ive already got 3 that work perfectly well) and 2 of them are VOIP eg NF14V & NF18ACV.

 

Also worries me that the wifi on their one might be rubbish as its likely to be using the older firmware which has proven hopeless here; there is an update for Netcomm NF18ACV which came out this September/2019 which makes the wifi work a heck of a lot better.

 

 

 

Is it really so difficult to get the settings out of Slingshot, or is each VOIP service fixed to a specific MAC/specific modem?

 

 

 

BTW Slingshot so far have been a superior ISP in their response and support efforts with my many difficulties with UltraFast Fiber.

Slingshot sent me another NF18ACV anyway. Happy to report the NF18ACV.NC.Vocus-R6B040.EN firmware they are using is pretty stable.

 

I do get dropouts on wifi (even though strong connection), but the router seems to renegotiate.

 

I must say Slingshot have given great service in every aspect, and I would recommend them thus far.

 

Im not sure why they are pedantic about VOIP passwords and keeping them away from user, but thats no big deal.

I think you will find that the reason they dont want anyone to have their voip passwords is that there are various analogue telephone adaptors on the market. Some have very basic settings to set up and some are more complex. If someone was to put in a wrong setting on one of the complex ATAs it could cause all sorts of problems hence why they want you to have one of their modems with the correct settings for your voip service.

OK.

 

Unfortunately, the wifi part of this modem continues to be problematic. Signal through the home is fine, it just keeps dropping off connections, and gets laggy.

 

My ethernet connection is fine.

 

Its the first router Ive had that has a decent signal, but flakey staying power. Tried all usual settings and more.

 

Apart from the wifi, its an excellent box IMHO.
