CraigC: Ive always thought orcon was assigning dynamic ips with unlimited lease times. Mine never changes even if i power off the router.

Yes. i.e. a dynamicly assigned static ip.
The same way if you buy a static ip from another provider

Orcon gives out what they call "Fixed" Ip addresses on DSL connections. It's semi static meaning they won't change it out of the blue unless required. Static IPs are only available on their Fibre and UNS.

I think this policy will save on time having to see who had what IP at what time when they start being the copyrite police. Nothing wrong with keeping your users honest.

static or not static ip has nothing to do with copyright stuff

isps keep records of IPs, it's easily tracked.

this thread is nothing about copyright bull****
