I am on Orcon Gigantic plan Hutt City

6ms latency

918.80mbps download

493.66mbps upload

Heya, recently switched over to Orcon Gigantic over in Porirua. Just wondering how you're testing this? Which speedtest platform etc.  I haven't had the best performance since the move and thought it was a regional peering type issue, but you're also in WLG.

@brookz

What is the 'full speed fibre' plan that you are on? 900/400, 100/20, 30/10?

You need to do more isolation tests. i.e. One computer via ethermet cable to your router...

Use a Windows Speed Test app. Do not use your browser speed test link as your browser may be crippling the results.

Show us a few screen snapshots, while you are doing tests, of your speed test and task manager ethernet and CPU performance.

Also include a snapshot of your ethernet status.

Hey there,

So these slow speeds seem to come straight after a drop out, which occurs once or twice a night from around 8pm.

I am on 900/400.

I will do some proper tests for you when it happens again.

Before reading your reply it actually dropped out again, 8:11pm and came back with no more than 5 - 7 mpbs. It is not exactly life changing just getting annoying :). Other than this Orcon has been great this time around.

Hi @brookz

Thanks for the extra info about the plan you are on...

I am on the same Orcon plan as you... I have never seen anything like you describe,,,

Obviously a proverbial pain... That is a very low speed you are getting.

We (on GZ) still need more info to be able to help out.

Especially need to understand how your test PC is connected to your router.

Are you using your Orcon supplied router and connecting with an ethernet cable?

How often are these speed reductions and for how long?

My first ever AM radio network connection was with a 1MHz AM crystal(OA91) radio receiver.

If you on fibre I highly doubt the problem is with the ISP.

Orcon/Slingshot Flip fairly much the same service which has been working perfectly all day. I am on them with fibre and have experienced no issues.

If you choose to test, use a cable. More than likely its wifi or CPE if you have a speed issue.

TBH 20Mbit+ is great for gaming and streaming so even if you were on 100/20 plan, your internet experience should be fantastic unless your wifi is poor.

Hi, how long are these dropouts, are they long enough for you to go to the ONT and confirm the GPON led is green, also can you do a speedtest now when its ok. Having a dropout twice a day is not normal, and as others on the same plan in similar regioin would indicate its not a Orcon network issue, its more local to you, iether dodgy fibre connection, faulty ONT, or more likely your router or home network issue

@brookz

Post a speed test when your system is behaving itself.

I am Vocus connected and on the unlimited gigabit service. My speeds are 929.21mbps  download and 498.76mbps upload  latency 6ms. This is per wired ethernet to the supplied router.

I am on Slingshot UFB Gigantic and have not noticed any slowing of speed tests for me right throughout the shutdown. Always been close or at the 950/450 figures. Some sites are definitely slower at the moment. Not experienced any dropouts though. Supplied router, wired ethernet though gigabit switch.

@MikeB4 - Can you please let me know how you're testing - I quoted you earlier to ask, but I'm guessing you didn't see it? I'm trying to ascertain whether I've got a problem or my expectations are too high!
