I'm really glad you are having such a great experience with Orcon.
I can't say the same thing.
My account (two accounts in fact, both business ones) are full of fault tickets.
And the many times I got asked "did you try turning you modem off and on again" - I can't count.

I am in the process of leaving Orcon. I'll give Snap a try.

The last straw was when I had exactly the same fault on my two accounts (frequent synch disconnections).
And when I was asked how many different modems (with model numbers) I tried, I simply gave up.
Both cases were (supposedly) handled by the same person, yet was repeatedly asked for the same useless piece of info.
Total disconnect.
So good luck to you. For me Orcon is no longer the same as it was a couple of years ago, and definitely not in the good way.
I'm with dking on this.

We fixed dkings connection today.

PM me your login name and I will see what I can do with your connection. Where abouts are you in NZ? Are you on Orcon+ account?

its true, my connection is fixed. i will be very fair about this
the people i dealt with today at orcon were excellent although it took airing on geekzone to attract enough high powered support to sort out this issue. i am grateful i can now stream youtube videos, rather than stop/start.
it may be that my problem was fairly unusual, and that their support staff simply did not know how to resolve it. but they just gave up initially and did not get back to me OR kept asking me to repeat the same tests i had done before... as though i was stuck in a for/next loop. alright , thats prob quite old...
i had to contact them many times, but it was never resolved till today...
i have never had any trouble getting through to support staff, and god knows i have done it enough times ... well done orcon on that front. it sure as hell beats 45 minutes to talk to xtra...
staff need a wider range of answers ... more than just restart your modem
i hope this fix lasts, i will update if it does not (within reason)
this could be a router issue, i had a g604t, very common, but may have old firmware. if you have a slow connection i suggest trying a new router. dick smith offer a 14 day money back guarantee... get the idea? or talk to orcon about a loaner, or update your firmware. this can be a bit dicey on some routers
cheers
dan

this could be a router issue,

I think it's more than a router issue.  Based on what I've read here and in the media, I think that Orcon are simply struggling to operate their network properly.  I was not given a choice when I was moved to their network - would have preferred to stay with Telecom wholesale as it was generally rock solid for 14 months and I never had to call customer support.  I've lost count of how many times I've called them since!

Sounddude.
I think it's slightly ironic that after countless fault tickets I am being asked here on Geekzone for my user name to fix my problems.
I should have moaned here earlier. Talking about an appropriate venue for airing connection problems :-)

I have pretty much made up my mind and I'm being cut off this Thursday.
So thanks for the effort but it's too little too late.
