@bonkas Firefox for me is just as fast as any other browser but the other thing is I don't run Windows anywhere.

Seeing it looks like you're using Proxmox just set up a MySpeed container to track it: https://tteck.github.io/Proxmox/ (run this hourly at most, no need to run it more frequent than that) and set your Speedtest server to your closest 2degrees one.

@bonkas I have another suggestion that has no cost - join the 'Measuring Broadband' run by the Commerce Commission.  The Samknows whitebox runs constant tests measuring throughput as at the LAN port it is connected to.  At worst, your ISPs performance is being logged with this project, at best the Samknows dashboard might allow you to pinpoint problem times.

I thought you had asked about this previously and had been told this device was no good at narrowing down where network issues lie?

That was a thread about what to do if there is no SamKnows box available.  On this thread I am simply suggesting this is an option for the OP to consider.

Funny you should mention, this is exactly the tool I am using. I can share the full log so far if anyone is curious.

So I noticed the connection playing up again, was downloading a large file from usenet, noticed speed dropped from a steady ~980mbit to the 127mbit I have been seeing in the MySpeed tests.

Unfortunately I was too slow to catch it as I wasnt ready to monitor the connection but this is the throughput on my router looked like, a very steady ~127mbit, again I think this is quite odd and seems to happen for 5-30min them come right again:

I’m experiencing severe traffic issues (even on gigabit) with 2d fibre since moving from Devoli (where it was fine, with identical network config). The traffic to assets1.xboxlive.com randomly routes to a Fastly server in Singapore (almost 300ms away) instead of the local Akamai cache (a few ms away). Hardcoding the Akamai CNAME in my router avoids the issue temporarily but this isn’t a long term fix, of course. The helpdesk has been no help whatsoever. Obviously there is an issue when you can only download at a few Mbps then switch it to Akamai and get 500-600 Mbps which I used to also get with Devoli.

Yes I am starting to beleive it may be a routing issue also.

I just experienced this again right now, was watching youtube and the video just stopped with no buffering, stats shows no network activity.

I ran a speedtest.net test and a fast.com test and got wildly different results:

I have similar issues, the download speed is capped at 180mpbs and the upload is normal for fast.com and speedtest.net I can only get 60mpbs for 2d server and a normal upload speed(those are tested via a cat6 cable)

I do believe there are some issues within the network, I have called 2d and they have lodged a fault

That is awesome you got a fault logged, I was only told there was no fault on their side and to keep monitoring my connection, that was about 6+ months ago.

Please keep us in the loop on what you and 2degrees find.

I've been running speed tests every 6 hours since I joined 2D about 2 weeks ago and haven't seen any issues from here, rural Oamaru.

Testing to the 2D Chch server.

Lowest speeds I've seen are 525.48 Mbps down and 403.28 Mbps up.

Most of the time get over 800 down and 500 up.

6 hourly tests probably won't catch the issue though if it's happening randomly and only for up to 30 mins.

Fast.com just showed me 1.2Gpbs. 🤪

Have added the xbox live server to my smokeping so will keep an eye on that.
It's currently at 22ms.

Comparing that to another ISP... yep:

But there were a few instances of that sort of Smokeping graph on your Smokeping. I would also investigate the speed further as it shouldn't deviate around that much either and I would consider 800Mbit on the slower end.

Always something going on on our network so I’d need to disconnect everything to do an isolated speed test. 🤪
But not too worried as they’re constantly better than I was getting with previous ISP.
