vavroom: For the record, I *have* rang the helpdesk, which I forgot to write about on the blog post. I did not get a response, and left a message. They never called back.

I used Twitter to try and get their attention because they had been interacting with me on Twitter until the day they went live. I had exchanged several DM's and tweets with the @2degreesmobile.

As for the SMS about the SIM, nothing indicated it was a non-reply service.

But thanks guy, you really know how to make someone welcome.

I emailed their CEO Eric Hertz concerning a network query and received a reply within two days. Worked for me.

slippers: You are comparing prepay with a plan...... fail 2DM shouldn't even be on that graph.

Bollocks, that graph compares prepay data with prepay data and plans.

As it is Vodafone prepay wins hands down currently. they don't even have plans that can beat their prepay data offerings. (the good deals aren't on the graph -  $40 for 512mb = .07 dollars or 7 cents per meg.

I am a heavy txter / data user.  I very rarely make fone calls,

however I have switched to 2degrees as I have an Archaic iPhone and want Edge data speeds, and to see how itc goes.

that said, 2 degrees are completely insane with the amount they are charging, I too am in the boat where if they don't bring out a deal on prepay data I'll be switching, and getting militant about encouraging others to boycott them unless they can release something worth while.

coffeebaron: I'm not sure why people are comparing data pricing at this stage. 2degrees have not launch 3G, so there is not much point in them launching "proper" data plans yet.

E.G. if they launched a flash new 10GB Mobile data plan for $50 per month, we'd have forum posts on "can't use my 10GB cause this GPRS is so slow! - what a joke 2D!"

I Disagree, I don't think that they need to release non mobile oriented data plans, but I've easily used more than 512mb on gprs in a month on vodafone.

and seeing as I can get Edge data speeds on 2degrees, I don't see why they couldn't have an intermediary deal, such as vodafones' 10Meg for $1 casual rates.

Its pretty obvious they are purely targeting the lowest end of the spectrum with their deals and offers.

And as for 2D not being on the graph, they started the whole comparison race, and now they should be exempt from it... Doubt it.

I did that at the Supermarket. When I got home to activate (dialling 200) it failed. I had to call the CSR and was on the phone for 15 minutes as they worked why it did not have $2 credit. I think (if somebody had been counting) that call cost more than $2!

Don't worry unduly, calls to the call centre are FREE. Yes, FREE. Our New Zealand-based team is also available to take your call and sort out your issues anytime of the day or night and any day of the week.

Cheers!

I think he meant the call would have cost 2degrees more than $2 in resources...

Man what is with all the QQ in here?????

We moan that NZ has a lack of telecomms. companies to bring prices down and lo and behold when a new one appears to be trying to do just that a bunch of 'tards burst out of the woodwork and rag on them.

Good things take time people. I havent switched from Vodafone as yet either due to lack of data plans, but i surely will once on account with reasonable data allocation become available.

Rome was not built in a day, and its taken Vodafone and Telecom a hell of a long time to come to the party re: data too.

A bit of perspective! Even if you dont go to 2degrees, a new company and more competition is worth supporting no?

/end rant

Nah you are well correct. Some people are just a little caught up in the hype, and have been drinking the regulation Kool-Aid.

2D isnt here for anything but the bottom line. They want to come in with lower prices to capture marketshare, but the dont want prices too low or they wont make any money.

Someone people need to remember it was Vodafone that offered them such a sweet MTR deal, and that helped them offer what they do.

+1 from me too.

2Degrees is a fine choice for me, i dont want to pay $30-$40 a month with telecom or vodafone just to get 4c per txt.  I am not a heavy txter/talker/data user so 2Degrees is perfect for me.  And that is the target audience i believe they are trying to get.

In time they will improve.

Its great to see another company on the front to help bring vodafone into line (i say vodafone as they are the only other GSM company in NZ)
