I posted a few months back to another thread. I have also experienced major slowdowns in Orcon speed since about May 2009. I sent them fault mails about it and in the end the claim that it is our area (despite having had fine service here for a year before that).

International speeds are the worst - Youtube is a total fail.

Also Orcons usage meter only seems to update once a day and a support ticket I sent in for that about 2 months ago has not been answered.

Sad really.

danielfaulknor: They are a lot slower (than national speeds), and i definately provided them with information.

It took me half an hour to fill out their questionaire with speedtests, pings, tracerts etc

I provided the information on 19/06/09 and still havent been given any response.

Cheers

I would be interested to see the reply you get. I carefully went through their form as well providing all the detail. In the end they said that their supplier reckons our area is to blame and won't be upgraded until 2011.

Of course prior to May 2009 everything was fine. It actually seemed to coincide with an upgrade they did where they knocked quite a few people off for half a day.

I am getting total rubbish pings/download speeds from around 8pm till well after 12am. I am on orcon FS/FS and my router connects at 6.5mb down 1000 up. Here are a few speed tests

danielfaulknor: Thanks.

Still haven't heard anything from Orcon.

It is mainly international, but i don't really want to get locked into a Telecom contract.

Might try WXC

Cheers

Do you realise if you change to WXC you will still get locked into a 12month contract? they now lock you in.

IMO Telecom has improved its broadband Drasticly making it not only very usable (unlike peaktime WXC and fast :) )
