2degrees: We can't open up every single number available. We've got to keep some aside for future business growth and our testing purposes. These need to be set aside in blocks so we've kept aside the 7, 8, 9 ranges for these purposes.

As posted above if you're after something out of those ranges it is definitely not available.
I find that the best way to search is to enter in the full number you want and if it says information not available then it means that this number has been taken.
If you're just trying to find something you fancy - nothing specific - then try with a number combination ie 4444  or 123 and you'll get a better feel for what number ranges that have quadruple 4's or 123's are available.

Cheers!

I have been trying for hours and think every wordnumber  has been locked out for future use or every number previously tried is now "unavailable". Ringing the numbers confirm as unavailable. Are they going to appear on Trade me 2degrees store?

It's quite possible huge range of numbers have been reserved already through people buying many sim cards and managing to get first dibs on the numbers of their choice. It's not every day a new player comes into the market and creates a free-for-all within a number range so it is more than likely these people will have had their eyes on places like Trademe with a view to making a quick buck.

Hence the 2 degrees position of monitoring sites like Trademe and announcing they may take action against numbers appearing for sale. However, this is not something they can do forever hence the 6 month limit. I'm expecting to see numbers start coming up for sale after 6 months, as people will just sit on the numbers until they feel it's safe to trade them.

How do we know if a number has already been taken? does it just say "information not available"?

Yes I agree that's not exactly intuitive. It's a poorly worded way of saying "Sorry, but the number you want has been taken. Please try another number". I'm working on getting that copy updated so it's clearer for users.

Cheers!

I am looking for my equivalent cellphone number xxx 2222xxx
In the 1,000,000 starting with 2 I see 29 spares in the 220 range.
Nothing in the 221 to 229 range.
Your 5 million numbers looks even worse after looking for 4xxxxxxx numbers .
How many numbers have actually been made available?

If you go back to our original post you'll see that 0227, 0228, 0229 are not going to be made available.

What we've put out is 022 0, 022 1, 022 2, 022 3, 022 4, 022 5 and 022 6. There are holes, some of the numbers have gone, some are sitting on the shelves, what's left available for you to choose from in these ranges is around 5million numbers.

I just changed my number. I didn't get my first few numbers I had in mind, but I still got a fantastic easy to remember number!

GREAT! Now that I have my new number I can start giving out my number to family and friends and actually start to use my 2degrees sim now :)
