Aaroona: Just restarted my router.

now look at my lovely connection rates.

ADSL Firmware Version 7.03.01.66
Modem Status Connected
DownStream Connection Speed 9312 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 960 kbps

This is a bloody joke.

Looks like a line fault to me. I doubt the crappy Weather would help.

I would have a guess to say that there are errors on the Orcon port too due to a crappy line, which would explain the bad speeds.

Whats your login name and I will have a look.

rdjacobs : Can I have some IP's of the sites you are going to?

Looks like you are getting pretty good speeds everywhere else in the world. I would be happy if I was you :P

We can't get you high speeds to everywhere in the world. Its not how the internet works. Once it leaves our network we have very little control, its all very best effort.

Aaroona:
Sounddude: Can you go into more details on your crappy local speeds?

That shouldn't be the case. We have huge amount of spare capacity locally.

Well, I rang it today and the guy reset my line and something else.

basically,

I USUALLY get around 15mbps locally.

tonight, things were running slow, and i was trying to pull a game from Slingshots servers. Usually, when I download a file from them, i get around 1.8mb/s

Now, today, i was getting 200KB/s MAX

so i decided to run some speeds tests (which was also advised by the helpdesk person I spoke to).

this is a bit of an upgrade from earlier today, but still nothing like it used to be.

I've done numerous isolation tests, tried different ports in the house, had my line reset, etc etc etc.

Location: Stanmore Bay, Auckland.

What more would you like to know?

and my sync rates are fine, like usual.

Mate, where in Stanmore Bay are you? You usually get around 15Mbps? I'm in Manly, a touch over 2km from the exchange and the best I seem to be able to get is about 6.5Mbps. When I get some time, I'm gunna have to do some further digging I think.
