Again Orcon fail. I can't connect to International servers - I have a 650ms ping to Sydney! Spoke to tech support who told me they have a "problem with International traffic and currently route traffic through China (???) but are trying to change this so that it is more direct (???)" ... the blind leading the blind is one phrase that springs to mind.

They told me to monitor my connection for the next few days and if it doesn't improve call them back and they will escalate the issue to "tier 2." In the mean time I'm left paying for a connection which I cannot use in the way I need to. Awesome service Orcon.

I can't believe some of you orcon users, this thread is 19 pages long, with complaints from tens and tens of people, and heaps of people have already left orcon due to orcon's huge performance problems, why are you guys complaining? just leave like the rest of us already have, get onto telecom's 40gb pro plan, or the 60gb business plan (which home users can have)... Orcon plain and simple are unable to provide a decent or reliable internet connection.

I left orcon in May/June, Have been with telecom since, Telecom has only been down once and that was only 1 hour long, I always "always" get the speed I should be, all international downloads are fast, and I can play games via pc and xbox to overseas servers like i should be able to. Something that orcon sucks at.

I've also just been put on a cabinet and now getting 18.5 mbps line sync, I can download files from USA and Europe at 1.9 MB /S!! (I can download 100 megs in just over 30 seconds!! ) from international websites.

And I can stream HD movies from youtube lol.

So stop complaining and do something about it... "hint.. quit.. hint"

Sometimes I agree, but not always.

I've just jumped ships to your much-hyped Telecom, and I'm syncing at 10mbps. So just because your indvidual results are good, doesnt mean everyones is. Where I am, I got about the same sync rate with Orcon, and after complaining several times on here and ringing Orcon themselves, they finally got the issue sorted and had a stable connection before I left.

Long story short - we shouldnt have to leave, and I don't believe we should be told off for complaining. It's not like you're being forced to read this page.
and I'm not saying that your comment is totally invalid, since in your case, it worked. But for some people, different ISP's packages suit their requirements better.
For example, if I wanted 60-80gb with Telecom Residental (I don't want a 24 month contact.. not even a 12 month, but thats the minimum) it would cost me a heck of a lot more than if I went with Orcon.

And BigTime is not counted in this argument since bigtime is traffic managed till the cows come home.

Falconz:
Make a complaint with orcon so they have yet another instance of customers they can use to show the govt that what telecom are doing isnt working

Nope, it's not what Telecom is doing that isn't working.  Just got the latest invoice, and there is no UBS credit.  They just doubled my charges without asking.  Boy are they going to get it tomorrow.  I am absolutely bloody furious.

It's hard to argue with zCelicaDude.

I'm sitting here waiting to watch a video on YouTube for GoogleWave.  It's 8 minutes long and I've managed to watch 11 seconds of it in about 12 minutes.  Our connection is sitting about 4kB/sec down and about 0.1 up so it's not busy.

Given downlaod accelerators get normal speed this usually suggests shaping is not set up optimally.

The last thing that is keeping me with Orcon is the static IP. I have it set on routers etc for access.  So intertia is keeping me, possible most people don't care about static IPs though.

I'm a network engineer and we used to scoff at Telecom and xtra (note how they buried that name) but they seem to have improved recently.  Orcon not so much, they used to be good, techinically competant and fast but I'm on the list of frustrated people now.

Kind of ironic that orcon is listed as an unmetered parnter on tvnz on demand and that is another site that is a bit hit and miss for smooth video.

To be honest, I'm getting the same shaping issue with Telecom (although ,I am on BigTime, but its the same problem yo uare describing and on Port 80)

While the grass may look greener on the other side.. It would seem that it is not the case.

YouTube on Telecom has been OKAY, not great, but okay.

I NEVER had any issue with streaming video from TVNZ On Demand while I was with Orcon.
People are complaining about it on the Telecom Forum also, so It seems that its a TVNZOnDemand issue.

All I can say is I feel your pain.

Just a question: do you have Interleaving turned on?

PS: Just a note to everyone. NCEA exams are almost over - so there is going to definitely be increased traffic in the coming weeks from students.

Aaroona: Just a question: do you have Interleaving turned on?

I'm on fastpath at the moment. I don't see many errors on the line so it's ually more responsive than interleaved but maybe it's worth swapping to try it. That's one thing Orcon seems very good at. You can choose a connection type, modulation etc and change it easily.

I'm looking at Actrix as a new provider. Anyone else made that change?

Thanks

Nick

BTW how do you box the reply? Is that standard here or and html wrapper?
