I think its getting to the point where I change ISP as well, Orcon performance is becoming far too unacceptable for me to want their service. Up until March this year they were outstanding with minimal issues and lived up to everything they said - "Extraordinary Broadband and Phone Service".

"Hello Orcon, Extraordinary's gone on holiday when is it due back?"

For 14 months prior to March 09 I had bugger all national/international issues with awesome pings and down/up speeds nationally/internationally, post March its been reasonably solid national but absolute crap international. Router syncs up with 17mb down/900kb up with 15mb down speedtests national but .90's to important international areas like L.A. Its becoming too much to have to crank speedtest searching for decent stability before I can game.

In between takes with Iggy would it be possible to bring back Orcon 2008 instead of a likeness to Xtra 2006? Thanks.

Im quite disapointed in my orcon connection most of the time its ok.

But im ok with that. What your all kind of forgetting is your expecting business/high end speeds on a tiny monthly fee. Even if you pay $100 a month thats still not enough to pay for the bandwith to max out your connection.

At work we pay $600 for 1Megabit of international bandwdith. You cant expect to pay $50 - $100 a month and expect 8megabit +

Ive also been told that the $2 a gig orcon charge costs them more than what they pay there bandwidth providers.

Its kind of a sad state really. As consumers we want more but we dont want to pay for it.

We're paying close to $200 a month. And I don't expect sync speeds over seas. I do however expect fast speeds nationally.

I too dont expect sync speeds oversea's, NZ has pretty much the worst broadband in the world so to expect that is unrealistic. However prior to March I sync'd at 8mb from what the router reckoned, I could hit 7mb download 24/7 national and 6mb to L.A around the clock. My plans the same, my hardwares the same (updated drivers are about it) but since March the ISP performance has deteriorated alot.

While pings are still reasonably good its the ability for the connection to remain at a decent and even pace that has gone downhill. As an online FPS gamer I can handle 150+ ms overseas as long as the line can keep a constant rate which it used to. Having 5 to 6mb to L.A was very playable however when it decides to drop off to below 1mb its over, I cant hit a thing.

Its embarrassing to have highly recommended Orcon to friends, family and other gamers in the past only to have them think I talked up a dud when they have the same issues I'm having. I just dont understand how for over a year they could provide everything they talked about only to have it disappear and be M.I.A for the last couple months.

Hmm maybe someone @ Orcon's rolling the dice and your roll won good service :D

Really though, I've also had those couple day stints where everythings pretty good but its too often that the service goes wonky for some reason. Just been talking to a mate and his WoW guild's got a number of players with very bad latency and connectivity and they're all varying in ISP's from Orcon to Xnet.

Hope NZ Broadband overall isnt getting worse...

It's only when playing games, getting impossible pings in every one I play. Downloads are fine..

I got an email today from Orcon's NOC reporting a big fault with their Telecom-supplied lines over the weekend, and apparently they had to route some traffic through some far places out of NZ and then back in to circumvent the problematic link. They did report it as fixed earlier today, though.

I'm still experiencing the same issues as that I posted last week - unstable and eractic pings. It was ok for a few days but now it is back to it worst.
