I'm on a 40GB plan than allows for unlimited downloading between 1 & 7am. However, I don't believe this is actually unlimited. The last five nights in a row, my modem has been disconnected from the network after about an hour of downloading and I've woken up in the morning finding that I need to reset it, and things haven't progressed very much. I've looked through slingshot's fair usage policy etc and I haven't been able to find anything about this, but my data usage has crept up over the university break (by about 1/3) so I'm wondering whether they're automatically d/c me. Does anyone know? I still haven't hit my peak time data cap (about halfway through, which is usual).

I find that my modem disconnects (or is disconnected) from PPP once every few days.
And it's usually at times when there's a connection of some type connection (IRC/MSN) or constant refreshing page, so it's not due to any inactivity period.

I've never found any disconnecting on my line, I seem to stay connected all night.

Are you on the The Next Big Thing plan?
I used to get disconnected sporadically. Sometimes days would go without a disconnect, and then at times it would disconnect, literally every 20 seconds, however when i switched it to an older router it would stay connected fine. Figures out the router setting was wrong. I had set the router to Multimode which would auto detect the DSL Modulation and it would select ADSL2+. When i manually set it to ADSL2 the problem seems to have disappeared and only disconnect once every few days. In anycase it might help to fiddle around with the DSL modulation

What sort of modem do you have? Are you sure it's not locking up with excessive P2P traffic? This is very common with some low spec modems.

It's a linksys WAG325N. NB: I'm only using the wired connection though, so it's not a wireless issue.

Are you using p2p software?
If so, look into its options and set the maximum connections to around 80
If that works for a night, increase the connections to 140

I am on slingshot and have noticed my connection is down for the off peak times for the approximately the last week. I use a different router and I don't think that is the issue. I think slingshot definitely have a bug somewhere. I have noticed that my limit was used up and I bought extra blocks and that's when it started. Maybe the extra blocks don't work for off peak?
