kyhwana2: Can you really port over to slingshot with this offer from a prepaid XT SIM?

You can port to any carrier and keep the same mobile number even to Vodafone NZ prepay / On account , 2degrees , Black & White, Telstraclear

http://www.vodafone.co.nz/porting/switch-to-prepay.jsp

John

Yes, but they had no obligation to offer this deal to people coming from prepaid however.

Its just a mobile plan on slingshot are you getting confused with the Vodafone offer to credit ETCs??

Or have I got it wrong can only customers leaving the XT network take up this offer??

Can someone please tell me how long it takes to port and does the ported 027 get "deactivated" immediately? Or is the transition "smooth" reducing "downtime"?

Porting time is approx 4 hours and yes the provider you are porting away from (LSP) will deactivate your connection automatically as the number can't be active on 2 networks

Hey guys,

Here's some FAQ's I've written up to help clarify a few things:

Can only XT customers get the 12 month free offer?

On the online signup form the offer will be available for all Telecom customers (regardless of whether they?re on CDMA or XT and regardless of where in NZ they live). This offer is not open to Vodafone, 2degrees or Telstra Clear customers.

What is the free phone that comes with this offer?

Nokia 2730 (the Nokia 2630 is also available, but the 2730 is the better model). Alternatively, you could pick the Samsung C5510 for free although on a 24 month contract.

Is this offer available for business customers on XT?

Not the Slingshot offer, however CallPlus also has a special offer available for XT customers. Interested businesses can check it out at www.callplus.co.nz.

When is this offer available until?

12th of March.

How long does it take to port across?

From request (and assuming it's a business day) 2-3 hours. The outage lasts around 15min.

Is there a catch?

Just the contract (standard stuff tho). 12 month contract with an earily termination fee of $20 per month remaining, plus any hardware credits we may have given you.

Will be around a bit more to answer any further questions you may have :)

Funny side story - phoned Slingshot yesterday to clarify the offer and the call centre girl said "ok, please hold sir - I will go and found out about this offer for you"

She was very nice but I'd have thought CSRs get briefed on this kind of huge offer when released :)

Definately should have known about it, we've got posters all 'round the place. Maybe she was worried about getting it right..

Hi Slingshot :) Definitely not having a go :) Just found it cute :)

Am pretty keen to get a family member onto this but I'm still looking for the hooks!

P.S. With all the bad rap that Slingshot gets may I pass on that my dealings with the call centre today and yesterday were pretty good. I'm not saying that any problems that may have been there in the past are now gone (I can't judge), but it might be useful for you to know of my experiences anyway as you may be in the process of making improvements.

Also it was nice talking to a call centre where people seemed to speak "New Zealand English". If this call centre was overseas then I certainly was fooled.

All good. I love feedback, and like you said definately helps us make improvements.

No our call centre is based in Auckland, and much like Auckland it's multicultural.

In terms of hooks, can you give me some examples? Or outline your specific concerns?

I see you have an iPhone, one hook with that is that we don't support tethering. Apart from that, iPhones work perfectly fine with us.

Hi Slingshot. I don't have any specific "hooks" I'm looking for but you know - "if it looks too good to be true then it probably is".

I'm 99% convinced that this has no hooks though, having looked through it all and asking the appropriate questions.

Great promo it seems. Well done.

Hey, thanks for the minifaq slingshot.. can you "officialy" answer the question of being able to swap from XT Prepaid to this deal? (I understand it's a 12 month contract and that you can cancel after the 12 months, just that the $20 monthly fee is waived for the 12 months, right?)

Hmm. @slingshot.
When I go through the online signup process, when it gets to the "Choose your current billing method" and I click on prepay, it sits loading a blank page for at least ~5 minutes. (I gave up after that, had leave to do something)

I'll try again later, but I got given a signup ID/pin, can I call the 0800 number after 6pm and try again?

Yup call us after 6pm.

Will have a look into that issue with the signup form.
